A healthy diet to keep you in top of your health during pregnancy

From the day a lady conceives and gives birth to a baby, her body continuously requires the essential nutrients for the healthy growth of the baby. Food molecules pass from mother's blood stream into babies bloodstream through the placenta. The mother breathes, eats and excretes for the baby.

A balanced diet is extremely important during pregnancy for the proper development of mother and for the baby. Eating fresh and nutritious food will not only help to give your baby a good start, but also prevent the unpleasant symptoms of pregnancy.

A mother should always concentrate on eating fresh and unrefined foods. Their must be a good balance of fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals in the food. If the mother can combine a healthy diet with a regular exercise; then she will have plenty of energy to see through the pregnancy and childbirth.

During pregnancy the mother's diet should contain approximately 40% cereal foods, 25% vegetables, 30% proteins and a 5% fresh fruits.

Few vital contents and ingredients of food essential during pregnancy are listed below:

• Apple, pineapple, Ginger, cabbage grapes. These foods are known to reduce damage caused by toxic substances such as cigarette, pollution and food additives.

• Wholemeal breads and cereals, brown rice are very effective diet during pregnancy

• Dairy foods is a must for mother and shall be taken at least three servings each days.

• Fish, meat, peas, lentils, nuts, and eggs. These foods are rich in proteins.

• Drink bottled water instead of tap water. The water may be taken according to the thirst in pregnancies. Avoid frizzy drinks and instead of tea and coffee take herbal tea and grain coffees.

• During pregnancy the lady may feel to have more meals than normal. It is recommended to have four to five meals instead of a regular three times a day meals. In between meals one may have nuts, resins etc.

• Light baked fish and vegetables constitute an extremely nutritious food during pregnancy. But try to avoid frozen foods on regular basis.

• Daily intake of iron is necessary for developing a healthy blood supply to your baby. Iron is best absorbed when taken in combination with vitamin C, so take dried fruits, eggs, wholegrain breads, leafy vegetables with a multivitamin. Iron is an essential ingredient of hemoglobin which carries oxygen in the blood. As mush as one third of the iron intake by mother is taken by her baby in the womb. The iron is taken by the baby to make blood and build reserved of blood.

• Folic acid is essential in the development of nervous system of a baby. Foods rich in folic acids are green leafy vegetables, yeasts and liver.

• Zinc is essential for growth and healing. It may also be helpful to overcome nausea felt by mothers during pregnancy. Foods rich in zinc are sea foods, nuts, carrots, bananas and whole grains.

• Calcium intake is very essential during pregnancy. The need of calcium by a developing baby is critical for the healthy growth of bones. Mother shall take plenty of dairy products and green leafy vegetables
