Blog Addiction - Are you a obsessed about blogging?BY: Diane | Category: Writing | Post Date: 2008-11-30
What are Blogs: Most blogs are simple websites through which an individual publishes articles on the internet. Blogs help people to express their opinion, analysis, social issues, personal experiences, technical articles etc.. You do not need to be a technical/ web expert to run your own blog, there are many websites (like Google's blogger) which offer free space to publish your blog articles very easily. Blogs have now become an important part of internet as well as media. What is Blog Addiction: Unfortunately what starts with casual writing can soon turn into a serious blog addiction for many bloggers. Once people start writing, they can track how many users read their article or have left comments on their posts. This excitement keeps building up and bloggers tend to write more and more - it is like a fire keeps feeding itself and keeps growing. Bloggers tend to be obsessed and anxious about their next article all the time. Additionally these blogs can be used to generate money through the various advertisement programs which again helps to fuel this blog addiction even further. I too was a blog addict at one point but now things are under control for me. Bloggers who have blog addiction can have the following symptoms: • Thinking about your blog or next blog entry while driving, taking a shower, at workplace or college may be even while eating or while watching your favourite TV show. • Obsessed about blogging almost all the time. When you are spending time with good friends, you may feel that its now a waste of time and you should have been blogging instead. • You tend to forget about how long you have been day dreaming about your blog. • You are thinking about your blog just before you sleep and probably its the first thing you check in the morning. You may wake up in the middle of night and instead of thinking of sleeping again, you are tempted to check the statistics or activity on your blog. • Excessive blog addiction can even lead to problems with friends and family life. Your lack of attention and time towards your spouse can lead to a divorce. • Even at your work place you might use company resources go on your blog or get additional information about your next blog entry. You know that there is a risk of getting fired from your job if caught, but still you are unable to resist. • You feel that you are not able to concentrate anymore on anything except blogging. You are gradually losing sleep in the night because of your blogging addiction. • You get extremely disappointed if you see less activity or traffic on your blog on a day. • Excessive blog addiction can lead you being mentally stressed all the time, you may over stress on your eyes and in extreme cases you may even get a heart attack. • Instead of taking a break on weekends, you get excited about the extra time you have and blog even more. You have started to become less happy and you tend to get too angry on small things. • You do not mind being called as a "blog addict". • These days you only seem to talk about blogging with others, may be you even try to convince them to become a blogger. What should you do to control your addiction: SLOW DOWN or quit blogging: Instead of writing every day, write 1-2 articles every week. If this means that you will lose readers, so be it. Your health is more important than blogging. Keep a fair balance between blogging and other activities and responsibilities you have in life. In worst case, stop blogging. Spend more time with your friends who do not blog. Try to be more social, go to gym, take a vacation and spend time with family of your girl friend. Turn off the comment feature on your blog if it helps to crush your Blog Addiction, or reply just once a week to your blog comments. If blog is the only way you make money, well then try to sacrifice money for your good health and write less often. At the same time do you really think that you will be able to make money for rest of your life only by blogging. Do you have any fall back plans if it becomes a less dependable career option. Do yoga / meditation for relaxation and to get a better control of mind. If you are still unable to overcome your blog addiction, consult a doctor.
