Cat Dandruff: Effective Ways To Treat ItBY: Eve | Category: Animals | Post Date: 2010-01-22
If you have a cat as a house pet, then you must make sure that your cat is healthy and clean. One problem of the cat that affects its health is dandruff. You must be able to prevent it by giving your cat a good diet, giving it a bath and having it checked by a vet to ensure its health. Your cat as a house pet should always be kept clean and healthy. This is so because it is your responsibility to keep your home as safe, healthy and comfortable for your family. Since the cat has become a member of your family you must be aware of its habits and health problems. One of the usual problems of the cat is dandruff and this should be taken care of immediately. You must find and look for possible reasons why your cat has this condition and look for effective methods to prevent it as well. Basically, it is a well known act of the cat to lick itself clean; it does not take to water like it takes a complete bath like other pets. This is why dandruff occurs often in cats. As a responsible pet owner, you must protect your cat and find good ways on how to do this. Give your cat a bath, sparingly but with some effective methods. Make sure not to use medicated shampoo or flea shampoo as this further worsens the dandruff and would also dry out your cat's fur. Instead ask from your vet about a mild cat shampoo that is good enough to get rid of the dandruff. Lukewarm water must be used to bathe your cat, not hot because hot water would damage your cat's coat. Rub the mild shampoo all over the cat's body, and then rinse off with warm water. Rub gently and then brush your cat's fur to evenly distribute the natural oils in its skin. Do brushing of your cat's fur as often as possible for good maintenance and getting rid of dry cat hair. You may also have to check your cat's diet. Poor diet usually leads to dandruff as part of the failing health of the cat. The cat's diet must be rich in omega 3 fats. You can give canned tuna to your cat. Don't give too many dry cat foods because it cannot keep your cat healthy. You might as well add in more water or moisture to your cat's foods since this is a common problem among cats. It lacks water in its body; the cat takes in water only when thirsty, other than that, the cat does not really like water. It would also be good if you make sure the environment is good for your cat. Be wary of your cat that scratches your carpet too often, as this may be a sign of allergy. It may be wise to move your cat to another part of the house or you may opt to change your carpet. During hot weather, try to keep your cat indoors as much as possible. This is because your cat may be easily exposed to bacteria or parasite infections. Let your cat outdoors preferably at sunset. Install a humidifier inside your house if it is hot and dry. This keeps moisture circulating inside the house which is good for you and for your cat as well. Make it a habit to have your cat checked by a vet at least 3-4 times a year. Seek professional help to treat your cat of its illness. For information purposes, the cat can be exposed to Diabetes Mellitus, a condition of dandruff caused by diabetes. If your cat is overweight or if it is found out to be diabetic by your vet, follow medical instructions properly and provide a healthy diet for your cat to be able to get well.
