It is a wise thing to have Disability insurance. This is your best weapon in case something happens to you. This would help you get financial assistance when you are sick or disabled. With that in mind, there are important things to remember in case you have to avail of your disability insurance.

Contact your insurance company immediately. Call them up to send you or fax you an insurance claim form. You can also check online and print out a form from your insurance company's website. Fill out the form carefully and don't leave any section blank. This would only slow down the processing of your claim.

After sending the form to your insurance company you would have to wait for several days or even weeks for your claim to be processed. The processing time depends upon the details of your claim and the insurance company itself. If you think you have waited long enough, you can contact the company to check about your claim. If you feel the company is giving you some delaying tactics it may be time for you to seek help.

Get a good disability lawyer to help you get your insurance claim. You can check a website which has a listing of lawyers who would be able to help you. Look for one who has handled cases similar to your case so that it would both easy for you get along well.

Try to follow all advices your lawyer tells you. You have to understand and remember that the lawyer is there to assist you, but you have to do your part in this claim. Just continue following up with the insurance company and have active participation in the process.

If you are thinking of getting a Disability Insurance always make it a point to read the terms and conditions of your insurance before you get one. This would help you know if you qualify for filing a claim and other benefits. If you are unsure, get assistance from your insurance agent who would be able to explain clearly the things which you don't understand. If you do file for a disability claim remember to do it immediately because any delay would make the insurance company deny or delay your claim. Better yet have somebody go to the insurance company and have it received and acknowledged properly. You can also send it through registered mail. Always make it a point to monitor the processing of your claim so you would know where you stand or if it would be time to seek help.

It goes without saying that nobody wants to go through a process of filing a disability claim. It entails a lot of paperwork, documentation and waiting time for the claim to be processed. It's just that the Disability Insurance is a need, it is a must and it would be there when you may need it most. It would be an advantage to have one.
