Do you know that foods can also trigger migraine - severe headache?

There is huge population of people in this world who suffers from mild to chronic levels of migraine. Migraine can be a mild irritating headache to a severe and extremely painful temporal pain. Person suffering from migraine become sensitive to sound ad light which greatly intensifies the level of head ache. During a migraine attack the blood vessels in head region dilate and contract. The migraine pain is intensified during the dilation of blood vessels. As the blood vessels dilate much more than normal, hence there is a pain. For people suffering form mild headaches, application of an ointment locally relives the pain. The ointment helps in reducing the dilated nerve to its normal levels. These ointments are often very strong in aroma. The reason behind is the use of peppermint, lavender etc. The aroma of these ingredients helps in reduction of migraine pain. There can be numerous cause of migraine, but a very common cause is due to the type of food intake. Yes food can also trigger migraine.

Chinese Foods
Chinese foods are understood to be a major cause of migraine. The reason for this, being content in Chinese foods called ‘mono sodium glutamate' or MSG. The Chinese foods do not contain MSG naturally, instead restaurant owners artificially add MSG to increase the taste and aroma of food. A person suffering from migraine can request the restaurant not to use MSG in their food.

Preservatives
All canned foods mainly meats, hot dogs, prawns etc are stored in refrigerated conditions with the use of preservatives. These preservatives add no nutritional value to food instead they are known to trigger the symptoms of migraine. Nitrates are used as preservatives which are the mail culprit of provoking migraine. A person suffering from migraine shall try to avoid canned foods all together.

Amino Acids
Foods like cheese, pickles, livers, lentils, beans are strong content of amino acids. Nearly thirty percent of people suffering form migraine have problems of migraine triggered after they take amino acids.

Chocolate
Phenyl-ethylamine is a very predominant constituent of any chocolate that is proven to trigger the symptoms of migraine. A person suffering from migraine must keep a closer look on the pattern of migraine. If after intake of chocolate he/she is having problems that the same must be avoided for all good reasons.

Natural treatment of migraine is recommended as listed below:

- Take a gently shower
- You can lie down on your back in a dark room and relax.
- Keep the volume of TV and music system off till you are relaxing.
- Soak a towel in cold water and keep it at the back of your neck and relax.
- Put a towel soaked in cold water on your forehead and dip your feet in warm water.
- Below the base of your skull, at the back of your neck, there is pressure point which when pressed releases endorphins. This helps in release of pain.
- Do not exercise during migraine attack. Keep your physical activity to minimum.
