Helpful Ways to Communicate With Your HusbandBY: Eve | Category: Relationships | Post Date: 2010-01-12
A good marriage thrives in many good things. Both couples must be able to understand and feel for each other's needs and desires. There is always the promise to love, respect and to be devoted to each other to make your marriage work. You do all you can to be beholden to your vows. However, there comes a time when things just suddenly are different, maybe even without intending them to be. At times, the wife may find it hard to communicate her feelings and thoughts to her husband, and perhaps, the husband feels the same way, too. It would be nice to learn about helpful ways to offset these problems. One practical way to effectively communicate with your husband is to plan it, plan it really well. Set the place and appropriate time for your talks. You can arrange for a walk after dinner and then you can have your talk. It should be a situation where both of you are relaxed and make sure that your husband is not too weary to be able to listen to you. Make the time to look for a quiet and comfortable place for your talks. You can turn off the TV or radio if you want your talks done in your room. Make sure to begin asking your husband about his day, or any topic that's just easy for your husband to respond to. Be sweet, friendly and interested to let your husband feel you are interested in whatever he does. If your husband doesn't respond warmly, don't be aggressive about it; just be gentle and not too demanding. Let a few minutes pass, and then you can again ask and start the topic you want to discuss with him. Try to share your feelings with him and let him know that you want his thoughts and feelings shared, so matters are clear for you both. Make you husband feel that you understand him. Don't be too emotional and don't show any negative emotions. Don't make pre-judged notions about him, either since this would make matters go the wrong way. Just be more patient, supportive and try to be perceptive of his feelings, with being too imposing on him. As part of good communication, learning to listen is a good trait for you. Try to be on the alert on how your husband is communicating with you. Sometimes words aren't enough, try to be observant about his actions, manners and ways. Make it a give and take situation; ask your husband to do the talking first and say that you are willing to listen. Then he must do the same thing when it's your turn to talk. That way, both of you know your situations and you would be able to handle things better. Sometimes, writing a letter helps. It may be old-fashioned; at times it can be sweet as well. Let your husband know through a letter that you appreciate him and that you are thankful for all the wonderful things he is doing for your family. Be a good partner to your husband and he would be able to reciprocate his part as well. You must remember that marriage is a partnership; it helps if the partner is able to keep the initiative to keep the marriage work and help the other partner along the way.
