The feet are one of the most abused parts of the body. We use our feet in almost all activities that we do- standing, walking, running, jumping, biking, for exercising, for sports and even when sitting down. It is just right that we need to take good care of them. They have to be kept clean always. Sometimes, with so many activities that we do with our feet, there would be problems that we may encounter. One of the most usual feet problems that anyone can have is having smelly and stinky feet. This is a social embarrassment and it may cause you some stress if you have this problem. The good news is that there are basic and natural remedies for this problem and you can do this in the comforts of your home.

It starts with the practice of good personal hygiene. Try to always keep your feet clean by taking care to wash them with soap and water. Each time you take your bath, carefully rub with a body brush or scrub the insides of your toes, the sides of your ankles and feet to rub off dead skin cells. You can use antibacterial soap if needed.

Make sure to dry your feet well before putting on your socks. Your socks should be clean as well. Don't use the socks which you used yesterday. It would be better if you wear cotton socks or wool socks to keep your feet cool. These kinds of socks have better absorption of sweat inside the shoes. It would be better if you wear white socks or light colored ones rather than dark colored socks. The reason for this is because the darker colored ones have more dyes or chemicals which may cause the smelly problem of your feet. You can opt to buy antibacterial socks which prevent stinky feet and bad smells on your feet and shoes as well.

Try to avoid wearing the same shoes everyday. Alternate wearing of leather and rubber shoes. Keep your shoes clean by air drying them as much as possible. Don't wear damp shoes as they can cause your feet to smell. Try to use a foot powder that would help keep your feet dry and reduce the onset of bacteria on your feet, socks and shoes. You can also use foot spray before putting on your socks and shoes. You can also rest and air your feet by wearing open toe shoes or sandals once in a while.

You can make use of these simple home treatments and remedies to avoid smelly and stinky feet by doing the following:

1. Make use of your teabags and soak your feet in a basin with lukewarm water for about thirty minutes. Tea has healing properties that kill bacteria and virus that cause sweating and smelling of feet. You can have this treatment weekly until you are satisfied with the results of no longer having smelly feet.

2. A cool way to relieve your feet of tiredness and also to prevent bad smell is soaking your feet in a basin of lime jello. Place your feet into a basin of warm water with the jello in it, wait for the jello to thicken itself and you can use this to massage your feet. Simply rinse with soap and water, then dry your feet well.

3. Clean your toes and feet with Listerine. Get some cotton balls and dip with enough Listerine to wipe your all over your feet. Then dry well before wearing your shoes and socks.

4. Make a home-made foot soak by combining ½ cup of vinegar with a basin of water. Place your feet in and let soak for at least twenty minutes. Then wash with soap and water and completely dry your feet.

5. Another effective way to get rid of smelly and stinky feet is by using your household bleach. Take ¼ cup of household bleach and mix into a basin of warm water. Soak your feet for at least thirty minutes. Then rinse well with soap and water, and completely dry well.

Now that you have learned of basic and practical home remedies to avoid stinky and smelly feet, your problems would soon be over. All you have to do is maintain the cleanliness of your feet and doing any of these remedies at least once a month or every other month at your own convenience in your home.
