Arthritis and obesity goes hand in hand. The symptoms of arthritis are triggered when the lifestyle is sedentary with minimum of physical work. You are consuming excess of carbohydrates and your body is not able to spend the calories. The result is fat deposition and weight gain. The load on your joints increase which triggers arthritis. Moreover if one is not exercising, then the flexibility of joints are also compromised. To keep your joints in the top working condition you must control your diet and exercise at least three times a day. The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis of knees. Due to osteoarthritis one may have inflammation in knees, joint pain, stiffening and sometimes even locking. The patient may bear extreme pain while standing or walking. Weight bearing capacity of knee is greatly reduced due to osteoarthritis. The major reason for osteoarthritis is loss of cartilage. Cartilage is important for joint lubrication and cushioning. Osteoarthritis in its extreme stage cannot be treated at all. There is a gradual damage done to the joints by sequential loss of cartilage. Get your joints checked if you have any joint pains or related problems. If osteoarthritis is detected in the early stage there is a hope.

You will find it very common that people having the problem of arthritis are generally over weight or their legs are too weak to support the body weight. The thigh muscles play a vital role in managing the load of your body. A well developed thigh muscles absorbs the major load and only portion of it is transmitted to joints for bearing. Even during brisk walking, your total body mass and its impact is transferred to knee region. Strong thigh muscles works as a savior to your knees. Even when you have tendencies of osteoarthritis due to heredity; strong thigh and calf muscles can prevent the loss of cartilage and hence save you from the pain of osteoarthritis.

So we have understood that developing muscles of thigh is very important to give your knees the back up support. Now we will see what else needs to be managed. Weight control is another important parameter that must be managed well. You must have noticed that most of the arthritis problems come when a person ages. Generally the tendency of arthritis intensified after your reach 50. The reason for this is very simple, as you age, your body loose muscles, which in turn reduce your metabolism. With a slow metabolism you tend to gain weight, means increased load on your joints.

The treatment of arthritis is more dependent on self control and managing your lifestyle than on the medicine. Take a balanced diet and avoid intake of fat rich foods. We are a generation of McDonald's and KFC's. Try to minimize the intake of junk foods to one or two times a month. If you can control your food intake, you will need to spend less time on treadmill. Cardiovascular and weight training is very important. The objective is to burn those extra calories and develop the strength of your thighs muscles.
