Minor Concussion IndicatorsBY: Eve | Category: Health | Post Date: 2010-01-24
When accidents happen, there are always injuries involved. People who suffer injuries may be minor or major ones, depending on the accidents. In case the injury suffered by the person involves the head, then the person may suffer from some minor concussion. A slight or minor injury to the head that somehow has caused some malfunction in the brain is referred to as a concussion. This condition makes the person experience dizziness, nausea, memory lapses or at times the person may be rendered unconscious. A concussion may be minor or major depending on the extent of injury that the person may have suffered; so it is best advised that proper medical attention should be given at once. One of the most common indicators if you are suffering from a concussion after an accident is having a headache. There is pulsating or pounding pain on the head, perhaps similar to a migraine. You may experience a lot of discomfort, your head feels heavy and you experience anxiety and pain at the same time. The person may be rendered unconscious for about 30 minutes and must not last longer than this amount of time. If longer than 30 minutes has passed and the person is still not capable of being conscious, then it can be concluded that the injury is more severe and should be taken to the hospital at once. The feelings of blurred vision, dizziness, confusion and nausea are common indicators to look out for in a minor concussion. There may also be some vomiting, and the person is temporarily weak and vulnerable to get up by himself. There is also temporary memory loss or lapses since the person would be unable to remember what had happened. Mixed emotions of anxiety, nervous tension and body pains are experienced by the person so it must be ensured that proper medical care should be provided at once to ease the discomfort. The said indicators should last only for a short while. In most cases, the injured person with a minor concussion would be able to recover within a few hours. First aid can be done on the scene of the accident and a more thorough medical check-up may be done in the hospital. Nonetheless, there are some instances that a minor concussion may lead to a more severe case. It may take some more days for more symptoms to come out; it may be possible that the indicators may have taken longer in time to be seen. There would be more indicators of vomiting, dizziness or nausea. There may be some paralysis on some body parts like the arm or leg, more anxiety attacks, restlessness and distress on the person's being. In most cases, doctors refer to these added indicators or symptoms as post-concussion syndrome, which have resulted from the minor concussion. Fortunately, with proper medical care and treatment, the person would be able to recover within about three months. It would be an advantage for you to remember the indicators of a minor concussion. But then, no matter how minor the injury is in case of accidents, it is just right the person must immediately be given proper medical attention to avoid further complications of the condition.
