I am no where close to the biggest loser TV show contestants but after losing more than one fourth of my body weight I can atleast tell you that it certainly feels extremely good. Weight loss has not been an easy journey for me and I am still working to get more pounds off because I want to live longer, live healthy, cannot take more bias due to my weight (Weightism) and "BOY !!", I sure do love those nice complements which I am receiving on my way.

This was not the first time I tried losing weight, I have tried atleast once before this and failed. Personally for me the biggest mistake was that I tried to lose too much weight in too little time. Too many restrictions on food and lifestyle did not work too well and soon my motivation to lose weight died. This time I took the challenge in a more organized way rather than a quick weight loss program. I really watched out what I ate, I introduced fruits in my diet and really cut down on foods like pizza's, butter, cheese, fried Chinese food and a lot more. I will not go in detail as internet is loaded with ideas on what to do and what not. Infact there is so much information that you can actually get puzzled once you start reading all that.

I did introduce an active lifestyle like starting with short walks and then walking faster over time. I did not have any professional trainer or a personal weight loss guide, therefore I always tried to workout in my limits. For me the biggest encouragement has been friends. I started my weight loss program without telling anyone and once my friends started to notice that I am getting a bit leaner and asked me ... I simply replied very modestly "I am watching out a bit". The reason I did say that is because i do not want then to have high expectation from me and I wanted those curious questions and complements to keep flowing my way. If I would have told my friends that I am trying to lose weight, their expectation would have got higher. I don't know but this is what works for me.

Actually I have seen that there is no single weight loss scheme for everyone. Mental strength is the biggest factor needed for losing body weight. There will be times when you get demotivated and try to take the shorter way by telling yourself "Thats enough .. this is how I am and people need to take me that way", thoughts like these are difficult to overcome but we have to take control of them. I have a lot more energy now, I can actually feel that people love me more and even my car seems to be giving a mile more per gallon.

World is not perfect and there are jerks all around. I have personally experienced weightism in forms of teasing, derogatory names and even bullying. I have recently started devoting my time in social service and voluntary programs. It helps me to go out and do some activity, keeps me out of boredrum and also away from TV and video games. There is a weight stigma everywhere - in school, workplace, healthcare / hospitals, travel, personal relationships and even family members. Weightism is the worst form of discrimination I can imagine.

If I can do it, you can do it too !!

Quick facts:
American obesity rates are the highest in the world with 64% of adults being overweight or obese, and almost a quarter being obese.
