How do you define politics? Many refer to it as affairs of the state or government. I guess that is the official meaning of it. Though I believe in this, I can refer to politics in some other way. There are countries where the matter of politics is active. People can freely discuss about it, make opinions, many even fight about it and others are just not affected by it. What about if you make politics a way of life? True, there are people who have done this over and over again. I define politics as a way of life because it is. It's called traditional politics which means the same old practices, beliefs and policies are done over a lot of times. It means the same old people or government officials who practice the same old practices and beliefs. The positions are passed over to the spouse, sons and daughters down to relatives of the second degree. It's like a family affair. It also means the people are duped into believing that these same old officials can still do better. It gives false hopes and make lives more miserable. This kind of politics may be prevalent in many governments especially during election time. There are also office politics. It can happen in public or private offices and you may be in the middle of it. How does politics occur in such places? Simple, there would aways be competition for higher positions within the office, personal greed for more money, jealousy among co-workers and a lot of other intrigues caused by the office workers themselves. There would always be two sides- the stronger one and the weaker one..sometimes there would be a third group claiming to be the neutral one. I try to stay away from politics. My friends and I discuss about this not as often as we would want to because we all have different opinions about it. We all consider politics as a serious matter that has to be taken as it is- very seriously without any pretensions. There's this kind of politics which connotes a combination of three things - gold, guns and goons. Gold refers to money to buy people's votes, guns which are used to terrorize people to vote for or against any candidate, and goons are the bad people who carry the guns and terrorize people more. Politics can be ugly if the wrong people are in it and it also can be good if the right people are in it. Politics has destroyed lives, damaged friendships and severed family ties. If only more good people with the right interests and advocacies would enter politics the world would be a better place to live in.
