When we are talking about health, ‘Fat' and ‘Thin' always stands number one in the race for a healthy living. We abhor the word ‘Fat' and can go crazy to achieve that ‘Thin' figure-line. These words have been extensively used by media and advertisers to promote their health related products. There is no doubt that ‘fat' has become a term that we don't like. There is no end to this debate that ‘who is fat' and ‘what is fat'. Everybody wants to become thin in this fashion conscious world. Youngsters are often confused that they should be fat or thin or to what degree.

History of conflict between Fat and Thin
Historically, fat was indeed the buzzword for fashion. But of course, the acceptable was ‘controlled fat'. In some African cultures, it is still believed that fat symbolizes health and well being. With the advent of time, the concept of looking thin became a fashion. For instance, thin waists and perfectly toned legs started being considered as happening. Anybody who carried even an inch of flesh on their body was considered out of fashion. The culprit which made fat a negative word is ‘fashion'. Fat in itself is never bad; it's only the over-fat that we should be careful of.

Medical Science's answers to the conflict of Fat & Thin
With that advancement of science and improved medical understanding, it is well known that for a person to remain healthy; certain optimum body fat needs to be maintained. But it has also been realized that fat people are prone to suffer from health related problems. Life expectancy has increased with the advancement of medical science. With this comes the need to keep our bodies healthy till old ages. Hence, it is important to understand that fat is an essential content of our body but being over-fat is dangerous.

Biggest obstacle in maintaining good health
It is very ironic that on one hand we are so fashion conscious and we give increased importance to good health; but on the other hand our modern lifestyle is taking us in the reverse direction. It will not be wrong to say that the technology has given us some comfort but it has also made us crippled. We have reached an age where the necessity to move is ever decreasing. This is an era of increased consumption of ‘junk-foods'. In the stone ages, the caveman used to be naturally fit. They had to run through jungles to search for foods. Today we have everything within a touch of a button. We can buy tickets online, we can buy foods online, you name it and you'll have it on the Internet. The necessity to go to the nearest grocery shop to buy your favorite food is no longer necessary. To summarize; we're taking more and more junk food and are becoming less and less physically active.

Conclusion
Do not blame ‘Fat' for your bad health. We need to change our lifestyle to maintain a healthy living. Consume less junk food and increase your physical activity. No doubt ‘Thin' is a happening word in fashion but we should also maintain a ‘controlled-fat' to sustain a healthy life in the older ages. Wish you a good health.
