Responsible Management of Your Credit CardBY: Eve | Category: Finance | Post Date: 2009-12-10
Your credit card is an important money tool for you. You can use it to purchase what you need, pay house bills and you can use it as reference when you want to take a loan with some other companies. It is in this case that you should be responsible enough to manage your credit card. You must be able to use it wisely for things that you need most. The credit card is your money in lieu of cash you don't have at the moment. If you are irresponsible in using it, then it would likely deplete itself of funds you have and result to big debts. The credit card is one of the most convenient ways to purchase anything that you need. It is good as cash and all stores would honor your credit as long as your funds are capable to pay. It is also referred to as ‘plastic' because it is a card made from that kind of material…small, light, classy and it fits right into your pocket. It makes you feel that you belong to that certain group who can just easily flash out that card, buy what fancies you, swipe, then sign and you're off to your next buy. That's always the case if you don't have control of your credit card purchases. That's when the troubles start to confront you. You are lucky that you were given the opportunity to have a credit card. Well, most credit card companies offer them anyway because it's part of their marketing strategy. You may start with one, and then later you get a couple more till you have about five credit cards to your name. That's a lot of credit for you to take advantage of. You pay everything with your cards - foods, grocery, medicines, electric bills, gas bills, school fees, restaurants you go to and probably some vacation trips. Think of convenience and you have your credit cards to pay for everything you desire. Umm, maybe, then maybe not. You must make it an effort on your part to handle your credit card purchases wisely. If your bills start to pile up, you would be paying more than you can handle. If you neglect to pay your bills, the credit card companies would send you demand letters to pay; they may even cancel your credit cards till you pay your bills. If this is the case, then you are in more trouble because your credit card standing or score would reflect bad marks on you. Are you aware of a website link where your credit score is posted? Well, if you didn't, now you know that it exists. You can even request a copy and you would be able to see your records including the black marks noted down by the credit card companies you owe money to. Your standing must be way below because the list starts with the highest standing going low. So if you're not been paying your bills on time, expect to see your name below the list. To help you prevent this problem you have to discipline yourself. Be a responsible buyer and buy only the basics you need. Sacrifice a little and forego of buying things that you think you need but you actually don't. It would be a case of what you need versus what you want; hopefully, you would make the right choice. Try to pay your bills on time. If you can't pay your bills, it would be better to try to get in touch with the credit card company and work out a paying mode that would work for you. In paying your cards, try to start with the card with the highest bill. Try to pay up so you can improve your credit standing. If you think your billings have discrepancies then you have to inform the company and prove this case to them. Always try to look for the best possible solution that would work well with you and the credit card company. As you are able to pay all your bills, maybe it's time to limit the number of credit cards you have. Be sure that you have the finances and capability to pay if you want more than two cards. You must remember that a good credit score record would always be to your advantage. It can be regarded a reflection of your reputation as a good payer. Bear in mind that your credit card is a life saver and as it is, you must be responsible enough to take care of it.
