Some Personal Thoughts About Modern Technology- like the computer and cellphoneBY: Eve | Category: Technology | Post Date: 2009-11-22
If you are the type of person who likes modern technology then good for you. I'm not a techno person and I don't know many things about the kind of modern technology we have now. Take the computer for instance. It's part of the communication technology that is so useful and has become an essential part of our daily life. You can do e-mail, chat online, do research, apply online and get hired online,too. I have a lot of good experiences with the computer because I do a lot of writing and sending e-mails to get in touch with my family and friends. I also got my writing jobs thru the computer and this is really one technology I would always be grateful to for the rest of my life. Suffice to say, I only have basic computer knowledge that would help me do my writing jobs. If you ask me to do other programs, I'm not capable of doing them because I don't have the knowledge and skills to to them. I have some friends who just love computers. They do their jobs using them but they also use them for entertainment- games, music, watching youtube videos and downloading music and movie videos. One friend is so addicted to playing games in her computer that she misses her meals and forgets to feed her dogs. She claims her computer is her new best friend and that she can't live without it by her side. Being the good friend that I was, I had to gently remind her that her computer is a machine and not a person to be considered as her best friend. Well, she made a little clarification about that. She said she still considers me her best friend among the humans, the computer as her best friend among the non-humans and her dogs as best friends in the animal category.. in that order! Okay, everybody has cell phones, right? You may even have the latest model and you may be just so proud to have one that has all the modern technology in it. I am really quite amazed on how such a tiny gadget can have all the modern features in it ! There are always new models that come up every few months with more and better features on them. Again, I have a friend and she has four cellphones of the latest models! She uses one for family only, the second one for her business transactions, the third one she uses for her friends only and the fourth cellphone she just likes to keep around for sentimental reasons. As for me, I only have one cellphone that I use for my family and friends to get in touch with and so far it has worked out well for me. With the modern technology around us, sometimes we just feel that everything is within reach with the press of a button or key. That may be right because technology has been made so advanced that everything can be done with such speed and convenience that you become dependent on them. So dependent that you may forget how to do basic things like hand writing a personal thank you note or sympathy note; you send your thanks and sympathy thru e-mail or text a message instead. You don't go to your mother's house to visit as often as you can because you have the computer and cellphone to contact her..maybe you and all of us for that matter would be missing that personal touch somehow. Well, personally I do miss it and I am sometimes guilty that I have somehow lost that personal touch in my life. Maybe I may be on the other side of the fence in all this, but I guess some of us have to be reminded that even with all the modern technology available for us to use, we must try to maintain the human side in us.. Hopefully, you would know what I mean; if you don't , ask your computer or cellphone for some answers. Let's see if these are capable of doing that.
