What Is Stress? Stress is a feeling of too much of pressures on you. Stress is the way of spontaneous reaction of the body against some particular events so that your body will overcome that event with full focus and strength. There is a science behind stress. When we get sudden pressure from any event our nervous system get stimulated. The hypothalamus situated inside the brain releases hormone adrenaline directly into blood which stimulates our heart rate, increase breathing, increase sweating, increase blood pressure and metabolic rate too. All of these physical changes prepare a person to react quickly and effectively to handle the pressure of the moment. In a challenging situation the brain prepares the body for defensive action this natural reaction is known as stress reaction. Some stress is good for human being to tackle the entire emergency situation very well, but sometimes the excessive stress leads harmful effects like violence, heavy emotions and restlessness for long. Common causes of stress: • The pressure of expectations from self and from others • The pressure at school from teachers • Physical and biological changes in the body during adolescence • Financial problems in the family causes stress • Tragedy in the family (e.g. death) • Moving to a new surroundings • Too much pressure of job. Stress related problems • Weight gain-overeating. • Weight loss-Lack of appetite. • Gastric problems- Ulcer, indigestion, acidity occurs under stress condition. • Sleeplessness • Lack of concentration, confidence, and remembrance. • Fast ageing is the very common cause of stress. • Feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness and/or guilt. Tips to release Stress • Change Your Attitude- Wrong attitude increases the level of stress. • Face the Challenges-Welcome change as a challenge and allow it to be part of your normal life • Think positive • Be cheerful -Enjoy yourself, have fun, relax, remain humble. • Instead of reacting too much to any problem and get disturbed, breakdown the problems and solve it calmly to release stress. • Proper sleep- This keeps you better equipped, mentally and physically and releases stress. • Avoid perfectionism: Be realistic, accept and realize that nobody is perfect, so don't expect you or others to be perfect. • Maintain diet chart- proper diet will keep you fit mentally and physically so that stress can be reduced. • Honour your body: Avoid destroying your body through excess use of drugs, alcohol, and over-eating, smoking or junk foods. • Relax- This creates calmness and a sense of well-being. So the next time you feel yourself tense up, breathe slowly, deeply and evenly until you feel calmer • Yoga and meditation- This will keep you calm and fit and overcome the stress. • Massage -This will relax your body and mind to overcome the stress.
