A chaplain is a person who has been fated to do community service to people outside his church. The person is an ordained personality who has been assigned to do charity work and some religious vocation to a destination outside his ministry. He performs religious services for people who cannot go to a regular church to attend mass. This person can be a priest, a rabbi, a pastor or a member of another religion. A chaplain may be assigned in a health care community. They are known as spiritual caregivers in the community. The chaplain provides emotional support to patients and their family, doctors, nurses and other members of the health care community. The chaplain gives able assistance to all these people by taking the time to listen to their grievances, emotional loss, grief, worries and concerns. They may do this by giving understanding, spiritual advices, prayers and blessings to these people who most need them. The chaplain may also be assigned in the Military or the Armed Forces. They have an association known as the Military Chaplains Association. They provide spiritual guidance to the soldiers and their family and officers as well. There is also the Army Chaplain Corps where ordained clergy members can be trained to become soldiers and chaplains at the same time. This Corps consists of priests, rabbis, ministers and Imams who provide spiritual and other religious activities the military may need in their area. The chaplain may also be assigned in Prison areas. They perform work activities with prison inmates and employees. They try to help improve the education and spirituality of the prison inmates, their family and the community members as well. They try to instill good values and help in the transformation of the inmates from prison life to their free life on the outside world. The chaplain is not limited to their own church or ministry. Their vocation calls for something more challenging as doing religious service in the far ends of some areas, away from the comforts of their church. It is their predestined vocation to do this, and as a good chaplain, they have openly accepted this in their life.
