Wearing High Heels: Pros and Cons You Should Know AboutBY: Eve | Category: Health | Post Date: 2010-01-06
High heels for most women are a reflection of style, confidence and elegance. It is part of a good fashion sense to be wearing high heels, as most women believe it to be. But then, high heels may be causing some health problems for your feet which you may not be really aware of. Arthritis, bunions and blisters, muscle pains and aches for the feet and legs are some of the bad effects of wearing high heels. Wearing high heels is a fashion statement. Women wear high heels because they feel good wearing them. They bring out a sense of style, chic and coolness in them. However, high heels can be a bit intimidating, not only to some men but to a woman's health as well. High heels have been worn for many decades. Most women like wearing high heels because they add more to their personality. If you are the petite type of girl, wearing high heels can add more to your height. Wearing high heels also exudes a sense of confidence for you because it brings out a certain poise and class in your total look. Your body looks lean and your posture brings out a more graceful appearance for you. Among other things, wearing heels also make your legs more attractive. Your legs would look longer and leaner in high heels. You would feel a certain sexiness when wearing your heels and walking in them. Your high fashionable heels would make up the complete look for you even if you are in your simplest t-shirt and jeans outfit. You would still look trendy and cool. A simple dress matched with fashionable high heels would matter in any occasion because you would still be able to bring out that self-assurance and good taste about fashion, and also assert your inert knowledge about good fashion sense. But then, just how high should high heels be? Early on, anything an inch above the flat shoes was considered high heels. Most women wore about an inch to 1 ½ inches high heel shoes for quite a long time. But then, fashion has gone a long way that today, high heels mean really high, literally high as 4-6 inches. That goes for the back heels and the front part, too. You see models romping with their high fashionable heels like they're second skin, and these models appear to enjoy wearing those high heels. As reality bites, high heels can be a bit intimidating to some men, but then that's just a matter of fashion sense and male ego. What's more important is about what high heels can do to affect your health, especially that part of your body which are fitted in high heels most of the time- your feet. You may be doing some harm to your feet though without really meaning to. You may as well be aware what unhealthy effects high heels can do to your feet. If you wear high heels most of the time and you do a lot of standing, walking or even running in them, chances are you are hurting your feet. There would be blisters and bunions on your toes and heels. Your feet would feel sore and at times there would be aching of muscles around the leg areas. Your legs and feet are stressed out from the pressure of the high heels on them. There would also be more possible unhealthy effects like leg and knee aches and pains, muscle tenderness, ankle injury and a discomforted Achilles tendon for you. If leg and feet pains and aches are neglected, you may be making yourself prone to a more painful experience of having osteoarthritis which is commonly known as arthritis. For some people in the know, wearing high heels may be one of possible causes for arthritis in most women. There have been some case studies about the wearing of high heels and their possible effects to cause arthritis in women. In one research study, it showed that heels over the two inch mark may possibly cause arthritis in women. Experiments conducted among women found these results supported by doctors who were experts in Orthopedics. But then, the experiments don't really advocate for the total ban of wearing high heels for women. It would be more of educating more people about the proper wearing of high heels in their proper heel heights. The principle is that the heels must be worn in their realistic and practical heights. That height would be about one half to three quarters of an inch for both the front and back part of the foot. So the shoes must have about the right heel size for the feet to be more comfortable most of the time. So bearing that in mind, you may still be able to wear your fashionable high heels as long as you know what you are up against as far as the health of your feet and legs are concerned. Your feet always need proper care to keep up with your high fashion sense. Awareness about keeping your feet healthy would come in handy to let you still wear those high heels for your own style and comfort.
