I'd like to share an email message I received about three months ago.

" your writing samples are a bit little below standard.... but you show a lot of promise...would you consider working full time for us?"

I had to laugh out loud.! Yes, I did because I was really surprised to get that message in my email. Then I examined the message again. Truth to tell, with the first few words starting the sentence something pricked...was that my head or was it my ego inside me?

My writing samples as ' a bit little below standard' were criticized just like that! But I've been writing for many months and they think my articles were below their standard! I applied to their ad already informing them that I didn't do technical, academic and review writings. So I thought they were referring to that kind of standard.

Okay, I admit I was a bit offended. But then I had to move on as I always say, so the next words .....were they kidding, first they criticized, then they were thinking of hiring me full time after all? Funny, I really didn't quite figure it out if I was going to reply or not.

Anyway, that made me thinking. I was writing for my first client/emloyer who encouraged me the first few days by telling me I was doing good work. Then the next several weeks no comments were heard so I figured I was doing good with the articles. I didn't have a single article sent back to me for revision so I thought I was up to standard..at least to my client's standards.

Then my second client/employer hired me because they were impressed with my samples and the test I article I did for them. Funny, these were the same samples that were criticized. Hmmm.. they have different tastes, standards and criticisms..

So that gave me a valuable lesson about writing. You and I as writers must be open to criticisms...some may be constructive to let us know how to improve better, some criticisms are good to inspire us to do better, some may be bad that you just have to go on writing and believe you're going to do better!

So I chose to do better and write better articles. Oh, if you want to know what happened next to that email message I received... I emailed back and thanked them for considering me and that I had to think about their offer..
They emailed back the next day informing me that I can choose to work part time with them..and I replied back that I wouldn't be able to, because my writing schedule was full.. that was more than a month ago...today I got an email from them following up if they can get my services part time.. and I haven't sent a reply..oh well, I'm busy writing here..
