6 Fashion Pointers to Have a Successful InterviewBY: Evelyn Lalisan | Category: Careers | Submitted: 2010-03-03 07:03:33
After having submitted a brilliant resume, you are now invited for your first interview! This is another important aspect of your job hunting process. You have to know what to wear to an interview because this would be a major factor between getting the job and not getting hired at all. When applicants are almost equal in all qualifications, most employers would probably choose the most attractive or the best dressed applicant. That's how some things work. So to guarantee that your appearance is a professional asset and not a disaster encounter of any kind, you may have to remember 6 important fashion pointers to make your interview a success. 1. Create a 'Visual' Resume Remember that you have already made a good impression on your written resume. All you have to do is to dress the part. Make sure that your outfit would reflect about your competence and qualifications. You don't have to be trendy and you don't have to be too stiff or too tame, either. Just pick an appropriate outfit that would send a message of confidence, respectability and modesty. 2. Wear a Suit For men, it would always be proper and appropriate to wear a suit to your first interview. A suit reflects a sign of esteemed respect and appreciation for the company and for the interviewer as well. For women, you can wear a pantsuit, a dress or skirt which could give you the corporate look. 3. Know the Rules That Apply in the Office Remember to dress up appropriately because you know you are going to an office where a dress code applies. A male applicant in jeans and shirt would not be able to make the proper impression to be considered genuinely interested in the job. As for the woman, you have to remember not to show too much skin. 4. Don't do the 'Mad' Tradition of Dressing Up This simply means that you don't have to go overdressed for your first interview. You don't want people to stare at you with some shocking expressions on their faces. Wear a suit in the current style. You don't have to be to fashionable or chic. Just balance your look that would still give you the professional bearing and appearance. 5. Remember to Wear Clean and Well-polished Shoes You are probably wearing the right suit but wearing the wrong shoes especially when they are dirty and not well polished. Make sure that you look clean from head to toe; that means wearing the appropriate shoes to match your outfit. 6. Try to Have a Budget for Your Fashion Style Try to have a fashion budget for your interview especially if you still have enough time to prepare for it. Start with your closet and look for the outfit that you may need to wear. If you think you have no need for most of your wardrobe you can sell them to get extra money. If you have the extra funds, invest on a plain dark suit which can be mixed and matched with different accessories or ties. You can even wear this in your follow-up interviews. Knowing about these 6 fashion pointers would somehow give you an edge over your competition. Remember to feel confident, relax and smile; make that lasting good impression that would get you the job!
