The majority of people have probably never heard of Adam Young. But a much larger percentage have heard of Owl City, his synthpop project. He had decent success on social networking sites, enough for a label company to take him. He released a couple of albums: "Of June", and "Maybe I'm Dreaming". Then, in 2009, he released the surprise breakthrough album, "Ocean Eyes". The lead track from the album was "Fireflies", a song that he wrote about insomnia, which he himself suffered from. It worked it's way up the charts all the way to the top, hitting number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It charted on both the billboard hot 100 year end charts for 2009 (#6?), and 2010 (#30).

His dreamy, floating lyrics and voice have struck many, pulling them into his whirlpool of unwished for fame. He is according to his own words: "Very introverted", and has not seized or manipulated his fame. But will his new album seize with the public?

It did with me.

Owl City was a singer who, I liked a lot, but didn't have all that high on my list. Sure, "Fireflies" was one of my favorite songs, but that was pretty much it. Even though I liked all of his other tracks, none of them were standout songs like "Fireflies". But "All Things Bright and Beautiful", his new album that came out in June, is to me, his best ever. He has several songs on it that are simply superb. The lead track is "Alligator Sky". I was a little disappointed with this one. To me, the presence of guest rapper Shawn Christopher in the song just takes away from the song, though it sticks with the meaning and is not bad by any means. But I much prefer the other version of the track without the rap, with just Adam Young.

"Galaxies" is indubitably more of a christian song, but that doesn't take anything away from it for me. It has charted in the top 45 on the billboard christian 100 chart already. This song has his good electronic music, mixed with real music. That's what I loved with this album. Mr. Young expands into instruments to mix with his electric synthpop sound. There are a few songs with guitar beats, and xylophone in another. The mix really does the album good.

"Deer in the Headlights" is the song that I would call third best on the album. Which is saying a lot, as it is really good, with heartfelt lyrics that hit home. I love this song. Even if this was all there was on the album, I would call it well worth it.

Now I have to venture out of the top songs on the album to discuss my favorites. My second favorite song on the album, is "Plant Life". "Plant Life" has an exceptional beat, with real music, and some humorous moments slipped in. (I saw a bear in the den. Reading my textbooks again). This is another heartfelt song, that I can listen to over and over and it will never get old.

Now for in my opinion, the best song on the album. "Kamikaze". Sounds like a scary title, but it is for me, the best song I have ever or probably ever will hear. Music with synth, it flows along taking you for a ride. I would not change a thing about this song. It is wonderful. As is the album, and Owl City itself.

There are some complaints that the album is too christian based, but I don't care, because he doesn't care. He sings what he wants to, it just happens to be what some people like. Some people like me. This album elevated Owl City easily to be either number one or two in my all-time favorite bands. This is it. "All Things Bright and Beautiful" is simply, beautiful.
