Balboa Park in San Diego is a gem which lets visitors experience San Diego's natural beauty, marvelous art, culture and architecture. Every year Balboa Park receives around 14 million visitors. Balboa Park is home to more than 15 engaging and diverse museums ranging from art, science, anthropology, natural history and more. Mingei International Museum

This museum boasts of superb collection of folk art, crafts as well as contemporary designs. Mingei is the Japanese folk art movement which was developed between 1920s and 1930s in Japan. Museum of Photographic Arts

Timken Museum of Art

This small yet beautiful museum displays a world-class collection of European old master paintings, sculptures, and tapestries that you won't find even in larger museums. Reuben H. Fleet Science Center


Established in 1973, Reuben H. Fleet Science Center is an impressive science museum in Balboa Park which shows more than 100 hands-on science exhibits for all age groups. It is also the only museum which houses IMAX Dome theater. Once here, watch films on giant screen, check out the planetarium shows, interactive exhibits, galleries and more. And don't forget to shop for educational toys, games or books for your kids at the science store.

Best part of museums in Balboa Park is that on rotating Tuesdays the entry to most of the museums is free. You can also buy a seven day passport to the park which allows you to enter 14 museums in the park.

Balboa Park is vast so it is quite obvious that you can't visit all of the museums in one day. It is best that you find a lodging in San Diego from where commuting to Balboa Park is not time-consuming. There are several centrally located hotels in San Diego from where all major attractions including Balboa Park is nearby and which offer good services at budget prices and nice San Diego vacation deals.
