Biotechnology field requires no introduction, but just to start my article let me specify it's definition. Biotechnology if the branch of biology, especially when used in agriculture, food science and medicine. Today biotechnology is the fastest growing field in the field of science and there is a very high demand of biotech professionals, teachers and professors nationwide. Why do I think that Biotechnology may be the next biggest thing for teachers .. ? Remember the late 1980's when everyone was talking about computers and people who even saw or touched a computer in those days could not stop talking about it. In those days computers were in form of huge (mainframes) and available only in big university labs or in corporate buildings. No one ever imagined that in the next 15 years the computer PC's will become so common, cheap and small, that they will be present in almost every home. In fact since the last decade the computer teachers have been in a phenomenal demand and getting one of the highest salaries in the teaching industry. Similarly, 10 years back all biotechnology research use to happen only in the labs of big corporate companies. Over time it has expanded it's reach in almost all regional college and universities and now a number of institutes worldwide offer courses in this field. As the biotech equipment becomes cheaper and smaller, sooner or later it will hit local high school and junior colleges too. Some branches and applications of biotechnology include Stem cells, Genetics, Environmental Biotechnology, Cloning and more. There may be not a huge scope in schools today but I do think that it is coming. At university level there is already a huge demand of people who can teach in this field. There are several biotechnology article websites where you can find a lot of information. So, even if you do not plan to pursue this field at this point, there is no harm in exploring this field just for knowledge.
