As you age so does your body. It is part of the biological process and you just have to adapt to it. As your body parts age, you just have to take some effective measures to keep them as healthy as possible. One of the most important parts of you that have to be taken care of is the brain. You can take care of your brain with some healthful tips that you can follow. 1. Keep your brain in shape and active by doing mind games. You can do word puzzles, play scrabble and some other mind teasers that would keep your brain active and sharp. But then you have to do games differently or take new games, striving to learn something new more often and avoiding doing the repetitive games that your mind has gotten accustomed to. 2. Try not to be too dependent on brain supplements. These are referred to as brain pills such as melatonin and ginkgo. These cost some money. These are not entirely pure and natural in form; they may even have some side effects that may cause high blood pressure, indigestion, depression or other similar side effects. 3. Try to take it easy and relax. Anxiety and worry can have harmful effects on your brain. Try to balance your activities and make sure to do some stress-relieving exercises like yoga and meditation. Try socializing more often, start a good hobby like gardening and crafting to take stress off your mind. 4. Eating more fish is good for the brain because these are rich in Omega 3 and essential fatty acids that help the brain cells perform better, reduce depression symptoms and memory loss. 5. Drinking coffee may be healthful to your brain because of the antioxidants contained in it. There are studies that show that caffeine can lessen cognitive problems and also helps reduce Alzheimer's by about 30-60%. 6. Get enough sleep and rest. This helps the brain to relax as well. Your brain works better; you make decisions, learn things and remember things better if your brain is well-rested. 7. Taking care of your body is also a good way to keep your brain healthy. Keep a healthy life style and avoid excessive smoking and alcohol. Take care to eat healthy so you would avoid having other medical conditions like diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and obesity problems. 8. Eat a well-balanced diet. Avoid heavy eating because your excess weight can make you sluggish and your brain is also affected similarly like this. Don't overdo your dieting habits because your brain would be lacking in nutrients if you do. Wrong dieting can lead to harm and may cause memory problems, disorientation and confusion. 9. Eat more foods high in fiber, with moderate amounts of protein and fats. Nuts, flaxseeds and grains are natural brain foods. Try to avoid too many sweets and white starches. Eat healthy to provide the brain with more energy and boost. 10. Lastly, be active and keep yourself busy. Your brain gets some healthful benefits if you exercise at least 30 minutes by doing any physical activity that you may want to do every other day. You can also engage in regular aerobic exercise for better long term health of your body and brain as well. Best of all, always think of the positive side of life. Stay fit and healthy, smile, appreciate and enjoy your life to the fullest. Make your mind look forward to each day as a new challenge for you.
