Business Broker RoleBY: Geoffrey Roberts | Category: Others | Submitted: 2010-11-18 02:36:53
So what exactly is the role of a business broker, the Company or agent that you entrust with the sale of your business? In general terms, a business broker should be appointed to sell your business. Selling your business will include many facets of work for the broker including professional advice, accurate valuation, market knowledge and understanding, targeted marketing, options of legal and financial advice and generally the management of the whole process. This process should include the Broker keeping you informed and updated at all stages with regards to viewings, potential buyers, legal time frames and any other developments. When appointing a business broker it is vital to know exactly how they intend to market your business, indeed, what they will do to earn their commission. They should come across as knowledgeable, experienced and capable of selling your business. The Broker will need to be able to empathise with your position and requirements but also be able to offer good and honest advice, even if it differs from your expectations. Remember, they are being used because of their experience and knowledge of selling businesses, it is vital that you take on board good advice in order to move forward. It is also important that you feel able to develop a good relationship with the Broker, an understanding of their role and that together you can work well in order to sell your business. Good Brokers will be able to value your business in the current market at the optimum price and will only be interested in marketing your business at a realistic price that it can be expected to sell at. It can be worthwhile being a little ambitious as buyers often like to feel they are paying a good price and indeed getting a 'deal'. Your Broker should be able to advise you on this and don't forget, they earn their income by selling businesses, not stockpiling them on a website.
