Securing a job in today's tough job market is a fortune. Moreover, if someone gets the job it is sometimes tough to adjust in new office environment and impress the bosses because sometimes the work environment is too demanding and sometimes the colleagues are not that welcoming and cooperative. It is the time when one needs to struggle hard for survival. If you have somehow managed to secure a new job and want to know how to cope up with this new change in your life and how to impress your new boss from the very first day then you have landed on the right page. Following are a few tips to help you leave a long lasting impression on your boss so as to ensure that you stay in your current job for a longer period of time. • It is very important to seek employer's attention from the very first day of your job, if you fail to do so you will remain on the same position for long until your work is recognized, since in today's world those enjoying good employee-employer relationship have better chances to progress in their career. • Show to your employer that you are very passionate towards your job and willing to contribute for the organization's betterment by performing the allocated task professionally. • After being hired, be ready for the first meeting with your employer. Try to think of the questions that can come your way and think of some good answers to them. Keep yourself updated with the current trends and company issues so as to avoid being able to take part in the discussion. • During your first meeting with employer after getting the job, talk about your duties and ask about the priority and preferences. Try to divide your work in short and long term goals but make sure your goals are realistic and achievable. • To avoid feeling strange in your new work environment, gain knowledge about the company like company background, products and services, organizational structure etc beforehand so that you may not feel detached on your first day at work. This will help you fit in the new environment quickly and swiftly. • Try to mingle up with your colleagues, especially those who have a good standing in the eyes of the employer. Idealize those colleagues whom the employer considers as best in terms of their work. • Show your skills and prove them. Don't hesitate to give suggestions and share your views when asked. In case you are given a problem to solve, apply your skills and solve it systematically. • Don't involve in matters or discussions that can create rivals for you. Hold a neutral position and be a little diplomatic, for sometimes one has to do so for one's own benefit. Be a good team player and nurture good relationships with your colleagues. Try to be friends with as much workers as you can. • Take active part in the trainings offered by the company. Don't hesitate if you are required to travel out of town for training purposes because more trainings means more chances of promotions. Avail all training opportunities as this will not only enhance your skills and knowledge but will also increase scope of your work. • Try to talk to the organization's people about their activities. Learn from examples and mistakes of others. • It is good if you take up voluntary assignments and do something which is not stated in your contract. Willingness to work on your own will help you increase your status in the eyes of your boss! • It is good to check your schedule before you promise to deliver a task. Taking the assignments and not completing it will damage your reputation, so complete all your work well on time. • Employees who are honest and loyal stand out of the crowd. Let your integrity speak on your behalf! • Keep a regular check that whether you are completing all the tasks mentioned in your job description or not, so as to make sure you end up having a good appraisal. Incorporating all the above mentioned points in your daily work routine will help you gain a good standing in the organization and ultimately you will be able to create a long-lasting impression on your boss, which is your key to promotions and pay raises!
