Dating Tips For Women: The Do's and Don'ts For Meeting His FriendsBY: Maya Ballesteros | Category: Others | Submitted: 2010-09-04 11:05:58
Some people say meeting his friends for the first time can make or break the relationship. That is not entirely true because after all, when it comes to relationship, it is between the two of you. Still, his friends have lots of influence that they can turn things a lot more pleasant for you or a lot harder. So what are the things you can do and avoid to make sure the your first impression turns out great? Do Look Nice Do make an effort. You may have started to settle down with your new guy as far as appearance goes but meeting his friends is another first in your relationship. This definitely calls for another agonizing moments of What Should I Wear? While that may sound like a shallow question, coming in well groomed and looking nice is a must. Your guy wants to show you off and you don't want to make his friends think you can't be bothered to look nice for them. Make sure your hair looks OK, dress nicely and put on some make up. If you are not sure what to wear or how to look, ask your boyfriend where you are going to go and dress accordingly. Do Let Them Set The Tone The first time you meet his friends can definitely be a nerve wrecking experience. You want to impress them and yet at the same time you want to also look cool. Do you talk a lot? Should you hold back a little? When this is something you fret about just relax, sit back and take your clue from the group. Do they talk a lot? Are they forever commenting on this topic and that topic? Then feel free to offer your opinion when you have one. Are they more of a rather quiet bunch? It is a good idea then to wait a little and talk when they ask you a question. (They definitely will, so not to worry.) Don't Try Too Hard Wanting to impress can make you do things that will lead to cringe worthy moments. Jumping into and trying to dominate a conversation, offering an opinion that ends up with you arguing heatedly, laughing at what turns out to be a private joke, talking at length about a subject you just research on the Net to impress... These are all classic example of trying too hard. All this can only embarrasses your boyfriend, making his friends laugh behind your back and it could just ruin the relationship altogether. There is a big chance his friends will continue to tease him of your faux pas and, out of sheer humiliation, he will simply break up with you. Don't Flirt Big, big mistake. Even if it is in your nature to flirt with anybody and you never mean to do any follow up, flirting with his friends is a big no, no. It shows you have no respect toward your boyfriend and that you simply have bad judgment. Flirting with someone you just met in front of him may be forgivable but if there is one line nobody should cross it's the friends. Don't do this, not even when your boyfriend completely understands you are a flirt. Don't Use Pet Names This can fall under the category of trying too hard. Pet names are inside jokes, intimate details of your relationship that shouldn't be revealed to anybody else. If you are telling his friends pet names you gave him to score points with them, you actually lose the game. Not only will your boyfriend be annoyed with you, he will be humiliated. His friends won't be merciful either. They will tease him, relentlessly and see again what happen when he is reminded of how you embarrassed him. Do Be You This is the hardest thing to do when you are all worked up thinking about and hoping to impress your boyfriend's friends. Just keep in mind that he likes you and it is very likely that his friends will also like you. Talk to them, ask questions when you don't know or don't understand about some things, laugh and joke around and just have fun. It is one of the reasons you all are hanging out, after all.
