Dog Care: Does You Dog Need A Petsafe Collar?BY: Evelyn Lalisan | Category: Pets | Submitted: 2010-02-18 19:24:29
As a responsible dog owner you do everything you can to take care of your dog. You find ways to train your dog properly to behave and control its unbecoming ways. But then a dog is still an animal that has its own natural habits like barking, running, playing around and even running away. You just have to accept that there would be times that you can't control your dog with such behavior. That said, some ingenious way was created to help solve that problem. The Petsafe collar may be the answer to your dog's problem. This is a collar that would help make your dog to keep quiet and limit its barking and prevent it from running away from home. Most dog owners find this a good choice to control their dogs. It is safe and not harmful to the dog. But then, it depends on which kind and type of collar you want for your dog. You can use the bark collars. First, there is the shock type collar which has a sound activated device. This device delivers a mild electric shock to the dog when it starts to bark. The collar is equipped with a tiny sound sensor that is placed near the dog's throat. The sensor is adjusted to perceive vibrations as the dog barks or makes any noise. If the intensity of the barking is high, the sensor gives out an electric route to let your dog know that it has to stop its barking. This is looked upon as an inhumane act against the dogs by some dog owners. But then some countered that the sensor can be adjusted to the right level till the dog properly responds to that level to stop barking or making noise. Some dogs respond to a very soft and moderate signal but there are also dogs that would be able to respond to stronger signals. It is just then up to the dog owner to find out the right level or setting of signal to which the dog would respond. Then there is the spray type bark collar. This one brings out a spray of citronella mist to the dog's face every time it barks loudly. It somehow trains the dog thru its senses. This is a better alternative than the shock type collar. You can also make adjustments to the amount of citronella that would be sprayed on the dog's face to have it respond properly. The downside of the spray collar is that you have to make sure that the citronella container is always full. There is also a petsafe collar is that is used to produce an effect of an invisible electronic fence. This collar is placed on the dog and every time your dog tries to run further away from the boundary of your home, you can have it activated. Every time the dog gets near the boundary you can activate the sensor which gives out a beeping sound. If the dog refuses to stop or respond, it then sends out a mild electric shock which will make the dog stop in its track. There would always be complaints from your neighbors or other people about nuisance barking and other noises made by your dog. You may need to train your dog to avoid such problems and you may need some help. The petsafe collars have their advantages and disadvantages, and it would be your choice to use which one you think is the best for your dog.
