Education Challenges For the Teachers in These Changing TimesBY: Evelyn Lalisan | Category: Education | Submitted: 2010-03-03 20:35:56
The teacher is the main person in the education field. The role of the teacher is always deemed important because most people believe that their children's education depends on the teacher. Why is the teacher so important in the education area? Most educational institutions believe in recruiting the best qualified teachers to provide knowledge to the young. The teacher as the educator plays a major role in molding the minds, skills and capabilities of the students. Therefore, it is also important to know the good qualities of a teacher and the many responsibilities they do in the changing times we are now in. In its simplest sense, the teacher is the person who is accountable to pass on knowledge and intelligence to the students to prepare them for their future. They try to teach their students to become responsible, productive and competent members of the community. They pass on important information, expertise and experiences under the guidelines of the school curriculum. The teacher is the trainer who would instill the knowledge and skills that the students would need to become the future heirs of society. As the provider of these qualities, the teacher must also be responsible to face the challenges that go with the teaching profession. The teacher must be prepared and should have the skills to do. With the onset of technology and newer education innovations, the teacher has to go with the flow and learn to be equipped with these new knowledge of combining technology and their teaching methods. The challenges and tasks are just huge for the teacher to tackle head on. They must be updated on the use of the web or the internet because their students are into these types of learning or getting information. These could pose some disadvantages because a lot of information is passed on with out any regard for discretion and more often than not, the information may do more harm to the students. The learning process is greatly affected, or somehow aggravated by false, irrelevant and confusing data found on the internet. It is therefore the responsibility of the teacher to be able to monitor and check this useless information; or at least try to find ways to explain and teach the students about being careful and to make sound judgment about information they get from the internet. However, the teacher may also make use of the new technology in their teaching methods. With the new technology, they can easily link with other schools to communicate and exchange ideas, experiences, methods and give professional advices to their counterparts. They can also use technology as a school tool to make their students understand their lessons better by using the computers as visual aids or as research materials. Thus, technology could also pave the way for better and effective teaching methods for the teachers. This is to stress the fact the teacher plays a very valuable part in the changing times we are in. They help pass on the knowledge gathered from our historical past to the new and future generations of our society. This responsibility is just too great to be ignored. The teaching profession is considered to be one of the noblest in the world. It takes great responsibility, dedication, patience and commitment to be a teacher. No wonder the great philosopher Aristotle acknowledges the teacher as only one of the three true professionals in society.
