Forgive Me for my Rudeness.
Dec. 14 2010
By Bryan VandeBemt

Now, I made an assumption earlier and assumed that anyone reading my NFL playoff predictions would have known me personally. So here I am, busting on the scene with my first published article like Chris Berman himself calling out the Superbowl winner, scores and all. While I still stand firmly behind my picks, I feel I should have better introduced myself. So I am going to give you a glimpse at my views on the sports world.

Being from Windsor, I am a big Detroit fan. I grew up sporting my Wings gear, and watching Stevie Y work his magic on the ice alongside guys like Igor Larionov, Sergei Federov, and Brendan Shanahan to name a few. I fell in love with the game of hockey around 1997 (which would put me at 5 years old) in which I can distinctly remember watching the brawl between Detroit vs. Colorado in what became a huge rivalry at the time. Right now the Wings are like a 37 year old woman, they got one more good year to pop one out. The time is now for the Wings, if they don't win it this year I think the window is going to shut for a while on them.

People are quick to crticize "The Decision" this year. I, like millions tuned in to watch LeBron's decision and I'll be the firs to admit I'm by no means a basketball fanatic. I know it was ultimately 15 minutes of intensity, 10 minutes of shock and 35 minutes of boredem, but I still liked it all-in- all. Firstly, he did it for charity. Now don't let this first comment fool you. I hope you think that I'm not trying to say LeBron was nice enough to go out of his way to televise his decision just for the Boys and Girls club of America. No, LeBron did it because he knows he is a larger then life superstar and wanted the whole country hanging on the edge of its seat. However, the bottom line is the money did go to the Boys and Girls club. People will criticize his choice to do make his choice on live television however they all didn't mind to tune in. Bars were packed like it was the Super Bowl. One has to ask him or herself, would his choice be as heavily scrutinized had he decided to stay with Cleveland? No. Going to Miami made him villanized throughout the nation. Had he said he was going to stay with his hometown team it would have been a heartwarming moment, to see the Cleveland fans cry out of joy, rather then sadness. Nobody could have blamed him for staying, nobody would have been mad, and nobody would have cared that he decided to tell the world on TV. The reason I stand by "The Decision" the most however, is think of this; honestly, could you really picture finding out where LeBron was going to go any other way? Seriously, there is not a broadcaster in the world who could have done it justice, and if you think about it, you almost feel like you had to hear it from LeBron himself.

I love my Michigan Wolverines, although that's a conversation for another day. Despite my Wolverine pride I can't find a place in my heart for Tom Brady. I don't know what it is, he's got it all, one of the classiest guys in the league, he played his college ball in Ann Arbour, and has proven to be a spectacular Quarterback, but I'm just not a fan. Manning has been killing me, I try so hard to justify him being the best Quarterback in the league, yet he has only managed to go 7-6 in a division that is definitely improving, but the Colt's should be controlling. I am not one of those people who think Manning is near done by any stretch, come on man, that was his first stretch like that in his entire career, he's not done at all. Below is my list of the top 5 Quarterbacks in the NFL today:
1. Tom Brady...
2. Peyton Manning
3. Drew Brees
4. Mike Vick
5. Phillip Rivers
I know that many may disagree with Vick over Rivers, but his team is doing very poorly this year and while he can't do it all, a team's record is reflective of its Quarterback. Obviously I'm contradicting myself there by having Manning at #2 but it's no secret that they were 6-3 before he went off and threw 11 INT's in a three game span losing each game. Manning is one of the best Quarterback's of all time he certainly can and will (and so far has been able to) bounce back from that.

At this time of the year you tend to forget about Baseball. I know Carl Crawford signed a 137 million dollar deal to play in front of the green monster, and that Cliff Lee is going back to the Phillies, and believe me, I'm thrilled Victor Martinez is coming to the Tigers; but when we're in the middle of watching Crosby and Stamkos put up points nightly, watching the Heat finally heat up and play how the world expected, and in the thick of a pretty exciting NFL playoff race, all of baseball's offseason transactions seem to get put on the backburner (and rightly so) I wouldn't divert my attention from the MLB playoffs when I had people telling me the Leafs are 4-0 and are Cup bound this year......... So obviously the three active sports get much precident over baseball and rightly so.

So there's a brief outlook on my sports opinions. I omitted the UFC, but I will certainly be covering it in the weeks to come. If your looking for my take on Golf, Tennis, Soccer, the X-games, or anything else I may have forgotten to mention, sorry to break your spirits but you have come to the wrong place, because I couldn't care less. So unless Tiger has a big orgy leaked on the internet (excuse my bluntness), or David Beckham goes on a big headbutting spree, don't expect to hear much out of me on those topics. Sorry again for an improper first impression, give me your feedback on the article, you can do so on my website in the guestbook, or post on the Facebook group page at B&B sports talk. Stay tuned for Burnzy's first article, highly anticipated like a Bieber album, and coming soon like Stiller's movie Little Fockers
