Are you interested in expanding your knowledge and taking German language lessons? In order to make learning easier you should pay attention to some common mistake people usually do when it comes to German language. It is very easy for beginners to get confused because some words are not what they seem to be. Everybody makes mistakes, so this is nothing to be ashamed of. You should take advantage from your mistakes and learn something out of them. No one can jump directly to fluently speaking a foreign language, so mistakes occur. Many beginners wrongly assume that the German adverb "also" has the same meaning as in English. In fact it means "therefore". A sentence like: "Es regnet. Also bleiben wir zu Hause" should be translated like this: "It's raining. Therefore we're staying home". It makes sense now, right? "Monica sagt, sie istkrank, sie kommt heute also nicht" means "Monica says she's sick, so she is not coming today".

You might wonder what German word stands for "also" and "too", if this is the case. It is "auch". If you want to say "It's raining and it's windy too" you should say "Es regnet und es ist auch windig". They way you position "auch" in the sentence is also important. Beginners also get confused during German language lessons because of the words "dann" and "denn". They have different meaning in English. "Dann" means "then", while "denn" is "for". You can avoid this common confusion by keeping in mind the fact that "denn" is a conjunction and it is used for connecting two sentences in a phrase. Remember this and you will know where to position it in a sentence. To put this differently, "denn" stands for "because" or "for". When you want to say "He is not working today because it's Sunday" it goes like this: "Er arbeitet heute nicht denn es ist Sontag". If on the other hand you come across "dann" in a sentence like "Ich schreibe diesen Brief, dann gehe ich zur Post" you should understand that "I'm writing this letter, then I'm going to the post office".

During your German language lessons you will find out that when wanting to say "friend" in German you have to be very careful. "Freund" means male friend and "freundin" is used for female friend. The plural forms of these nouns are "freunde" and "freundinnen".in order to avoid embarssing situation you need to know that Germans hardly decide to call someone a friend. They only use the terms mentioned above for intimate friends, while others are just acquaintances and are called "bekannte". The terms are also used for "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" so pay attention to what you say and to whom.

Learning German is not as difficult as it may seem. You will sure be successful with your German language lessons as long as you know how to avoid common mistakes. They occur while you are still at the beginning, but as you advance with learning you will find it easier not to get confused.
