If you are looking for work you would always have a ready resume to be submitted to your targeted employer. Your resume has the usual personal information about you. It also includes schools you attended, past work experiences, trainings, seminars and your skills and talents as well. Aside from these maybe you must add more information that would make the employer think that you are the right person for the job. Why not try to sell yourself just a bit more and give your resume a competitive edge over others? To be more specific by what was meant, it simply goes without saying that your resume should be the selling kind instead of the telling kind. You resume should sell the notion that you would be a good hire because you have accomplishments to prove so. It could just be asking this basic question:' how I am different from everyone else'? In actuality, the resume tells almost everything that involves about you and your work, experiences and skills. Most employers don't read your resume word by word. They have developed the skill of going through the work experiences and skills area of your resume in a matter of seconds. If they don't find anything out of the ordinary, your resume is simply thrown into a cabinet with the rest of the other resume not to their liking. To have the competitive edge you must highlight your accomplishments, the more the better. For example you may indicate in your resume that you may have developed a marketing strategy for your previous company. That is basically telling what you have done. To have a more competitive edge to this, you may do it this way: developed a new marketing strategy that resulted to 80% increased sales, expanding client base as much as 60% for the year 2008-2009. You can also highlight a cost saving achievement, how it was done and the results that were derived from it. Putting down your accomplishments on your resume is already a good edge over others. This is like selling your achievements to the employer and chances are the employer would be able to see it that way. The selling points of your resume via your accomplishments should be direct, concise and convincing. Your resume would indicate that you have faced the challenge of the job, did action regarding it and came out with good results that qualify such achievement. The employer can always verify this by getting in touch with your references or your previous employer. A good resume would always help the hiring employer to quantify what you have accomplished and this would be a good benchmark to compare their company's needs to what you can offer if they decide to hire you. If you can convincingly demonstrate that you are what they need, then you can just breeze through the interview and you will get the job.
