Let's go straight to the facts what your shopping plastic and paper bags can do to the environment; these destroy and harm the environment. One paper bag can contribute about 72% more landfill waste compared to a couple of plastic bags. The plastic bags can fill up the landfills and clog waterways. The plastic bags in due time can disintegrate into smaller pieces that can go into the soil or ground and eventually be consumed by land animals, can also go into the water harming marine life by clogging up their digestive systems. These are grounds for all of us to be more aware of the methods we use in our daily activities. Since shopping is a common activity, it is just right to be conscious of using more eco-friendly shopping habits to help save the environment in our own little way.

1. Decide on Non-wrapped foods
Choose to buy foods that are not wrapped and make it a habit to bring your own personal reusable eco-friendly shopping bag to the grocery. Avoid purchasing foods that are wrapped in plastic or Styrofoam since you are just adding more to the plastic waste you have to dispose of. Buy your vegetables and fruits per item and place them in your own reusable grocery shopping bag. You can help lessen the use of plastic by avoiding buying plastic or pre-wrapped goods.

2. Recycle your paper bags
If you happen to buy some products in paper bags, use the paper bags again for your next shopping. Try to think of ways to recycle paper more often. By recycling paper you help in conserving our trees, reduce pollution in the environment and also lessening landfill garbage.

3. Recycle your plastic bags
You can use plastic bags for your next shopping. Don't throw them away and just give them to some plastic recycling stores or centers for more useful options.

4. Reuse your paper and plastic bags
Make it a habit to reuse all the paper and plastic bags you have collected in all your shopping. You can extend their uses by using them in your own practical ways. Plastic bags can be used to place your daily garbage, paper bags can be used to store some little things or you can donate them to recycling centers in your area.

5. Use reusable bags for shopping
Your reusable shopping bag can be made of natural cloth or hemp which is both eco-friendly and trendy to use. You can clean these by washing them and air drying.

Plastic and paper are two of the non-biodegradable types of waste that fill up most landfills. It takes a longer time for these materials to break up or disintegrate. If they do so, they eventually combine into the ground or soil that can be infested with the toxic ingredients they were made of. We plant our crops on these grounds so then our produce may get contaminated, then animals feed on the ground and we feed them some of our produce so they, too get contaminated, and the cycle goes on and on and we are the receiving end of all these.
