Going Back Here- Writing For the New YearBY: Evelyn Lalisan | Category: Writing | Submitted: 2011-01-05 03:07:15
Writing is a passion, a skill, a gift and a talent.... it can also be an advocacy and a kind of job that can pay really well. It can be developed as I believe that if you have the patience to learn and be open-minded enough to adapt to new technology that pertains to writing, then you can become a really good writer. The trick is to practice, practice and practice more till you feel you get it right. It's been more than six months since I left this site to seek other writing opportunities. Thankfully, my experiences here as a writer have been useful to get the writing projects that I wanted. It was really helpful that I have written articles here in different categories which I used as references and sample articles. I know for a fact that most of my employers and clients have clicked this site to check my articles. That is why I have one of the highest reviews on this site! Wriitng as a job has its ups and downs. One of those downs is when you don't get paid for the articles you wrote. Yes, it can happen and it did to me, once. I wrote 5 articles and the client never got back to me despite of several follow-up emails on my part. Well, I finally gave up, and just treated the experience as one that should be forgotten. In consequence, I became more careful in accepting writing projects from clients and applying for writing positions in different online job sites. Another downside is late payment. Believe me,this can be really stressful. I have experienced this a lot of times. There were times that I would think that I was just not so lucky with clients I chose to work for. I wrote articles for a client and my salary was set on a weekly basis. Sad to say, I had to remind them to pay me after each week. The good thing is that they do pay me...after two weeks...so, I decided to end the contract and lessen my stress. It felt really good, by the way. This is not really a downside, but it can be. Some clients ask for a writing sample and then never contact you again. Imagine how many articles they would get for free if so many writers would apply for the position! They would probably have made several E-books from free article samples they require from applicants. Somehow, I treat these downsides as mere inconveniences in my line of work. I have more ups to be thankful for such as continuous writing projects, invites from other job sites and being able to choose writing projects that I like. I can work and write straight for 3 months, then choose to be idle for the next month. It feels great to have the freedom to work on my own terms, my own time and my own pace. How lucky can I get? But then again, I am simply a workaholic. I write for a living. Sure, I pamper myself once in a while to recharge. As I always remind myself and you might as well know - that writing can be stressful, it can be mind-boggling and back-breaking as well. But it can be all worth it, since you get to be paid, and you get paid well; and you have done your part in writing articles that give knowledge, inspiration and entertainment to people who like to read. Having said that, continue writing and be more inspired to do it. It can lead you to something good.
