How You Can Stop Child Neglect and AbuseBY: Deidre Dorsett | Category: Issues | Submitted: 2010-06-27 15:19:27
We mostly have heard of or known someone who has lost their children to the state due to the fact that their child was either neglected or abused. We might wonder what we can do to stop this. There is plenty for us to do to stop this. The first thing that we can do is make sure that we know how to treat our own children. Tune into their feelings and know what you can and can't do. Sometimes, some parents might not be aware that what they are doing is a form of abuse. This is especially true for those who aren't familiar with our culture as it might be perfectly normal in theirs. Which brings us to the next thing that you can do which is promoting awareness of child abuse and neglect. When people know what it is and what it looks like, then you will be able to help others to see what that looks like and so forth. This is especially needed from what we found with single moms as well as teenage moms. Another thing you can do is work to help mothers and parents who you know might have some stress to handle those things without their children around. Many will find that this is something that drives a lot of parents to the edge. You can be a friend and help them through a hard time. Something that not enough people do would be to report those things that we might suspect. Now, many fear this as they don't' want their name mentioned. They fear that they might get the children in further trouble. They might even fear that if they call someone then other things could happen. You can call an anonymous line and they won't give names. Therefore, no one is mad at you. This way, even if you aren't sure, things can be investigated and a determination can be made. If you aren't close to anyone then you can do your part to stop child abuse and neglect. You can help fund those organizations that are out there that are there to spread awareness about this issue. There are all sort of ways that people can do their best to promote the awareness of this issue, but what stops them from doing so is that they don't' have the money to do so. You can help them with this. There are all these walk a thons and so forth that take place to raise the funds to get the word out there. What are some other things that you can do? You can lend an ear. There are times that people don't know where to turn when they think a child is being abused. If they come to you, then you have a duty to lead them in the right direction. When you do these things, you can rest assured that you have done your part to stop this best you know how. Now, how does that make you fee?
