How to Choose a ChurchBY: Deidre Dorsett | Category: Religion | Submitted: 2010-06-28 20:37:12
Looking for a church can be a tedious task if you aren't sure what you should be looking for. You might not have been in church for a long time. You might never have been in one ever. This is why we are here to tell you what you should know about it so that you have an easier time with finding something that will work for you. One of the first things that people will tell you is hours. You need to find a church that has hours that meet what you need. There are some churches where you are in church for hours at a time. This might not be something that you like due to the fact that the weekends might be all the free time you have. Others will tell you to check out the music. This isn't something that is a necessity. However, you might want to consider it. Are you looking for traditional hymns? Maybe you are looking for something like gospel music. Others might be looking for something that is a bit more upbeat. You need to think about this, but don't make this the thing that makes or breaks a church. How much do you get from the sermon might be something else you like. There are many who have left churches because the sermons were about money and who should be in control. What are you learning from that? This can really hinder you from going back to a church. Some people are looking for a church as to what they are used to. There are some of you who aren't new to church, it's just been a while. Ask around and people can give you an idea of what you might be looking for. It's not like you should shop around. How welcoming they are should be something else that you look for. Are they the ones that look at you and snub you because you are the new kid on the block? Are they more inviting and asking you if you need any help? Are they over inviting and already asking you if you are going to join? Ask what their beliefs are as well. There are many who are for or against things that you might not agree with. There are some who won't let you commune with them unless you are baptized. Others say you have to be a member to take communion there. If you aren't too sure about it, you should be able to look on their website or things of that nature. This is something else that can make or break a church for you. When you find a church that you are comfortable with you will know it. There are different things that everyone looks for, but these are just a few of them. When you know what you are looking for, church will feel like a home and not something that is a drag for you. So, here is to you for those of you looking for a place to settle your roots.
