The Macmillan Dictionary defines a rumour-monger as someone who spread rumours; in which the emphasis is on the fact the person has no verification or facts of the information she/he is sharing in the public domain. Spreading applaud the character of this person as one who will share the information with anybody who will show interest to hear, be it a villager or a visitor.

In this article I would like to share the dos and dont's when dealing with a rumour monger:

DO's
1. Talk to him/her friendly- This is a person who wants to be associated and involved with all. Shunning her/him away will make you the village laughing stock as she/he goes telling everybody how rude, ignorant, evil you are.
2. Answer the questions she/he raises positively, to encourage more disclosure even if for one minute as she/he knows what to share in 10 seconds if given an ear.
3. Keep in mind what your mouth is saying since it will be put in the village media.
4. Keep your comments neutral on the subject to allow her/him solicit for more opinions from other villagers.
5. Allow her/him time and ear if only you have the time and if not show interest to share with her/him next time.

DONT'S
1. Do not share confidential or secret information as once you do, it will be the headline of the village media.
2. Do not contribute or answer queries if your updates are not up to date.
3. Do not object or refuse to give an ear -if you do-she/he can tarnish your personality
4. Do not order her/him when conducting activities as this will create an impression of not recognizing her/his person.
5. Do not eat your meals outside the house as she/he may say you are not considerate of the hungry or fear the consequences of such activities.
