You may not want to find yourself in difficult and life threatening situations, but nonetheless it would always be helpful if you know some basic tips to get yourself out of those situations.

If you find yourself get stuck or stranded in rising water, what would you do? In the first place, you should never try to drive through standing or rising water even if you think your car could make it. You may make a mistake that your car can't be carried away by water, and that is so wrong for you to think that way. If you find yourself stuck, quickly get out of the car and move to higher ground if you can. If the water is rising and it would be a bit late for you to wade through it, get on top of your car and wait for help or if you can, go to higher ground where you will be safer.

If your car is starting to be submerged in water, try to quickly roll down your car windows to equalize the pressure so you can easily swim out the window or push your way out of the car door. Remember to do this quickly before the water affects the electrical systems of your car. For your own convenience, remember to keep a Life Hammer device handy inside your car. This is strong enough to break the window shields in case of situations like this.

In case of a strong storm or hurricane, try to safeguard yourself by hiding in a closet or pantry. If water is rising, you must climb to the top floors, or to the roof till the winds and rains stop to keep yourself safe from rising water. If you can, you must secure some important items such as water, flashlight, medicine, towels and some food to keep you comforted while waiting for help.

If you find yourself inside a burning building, try to calm down and avoid panicking so you would be focused on what you would do. Wet a towel and cover your face with it, try to stay low to the floor. You can also place wet towels on the door to keep the smoke out. You can also try to get yourself out by crawling to some areas not yet affected by fire and keep on going till you are safely away from the fire.

If you find yourself choking, quickly try to put your finger into your mouth to initiate vomiting. If unable to do this, try to find a chair or a piece of furniture that you could use to hit your upper abdomen on the V side of the ribs. You can also do this if you have a kitchen counter which you can thrust your upper abdomen against to so your choking would be stopped. This is called the Heimlich manoeuvre which some emergency physicians have used in choking situations like this. Try to do some thrust and upward movements till you are able to breathe easily. Quickly call 911 for further help.

If you feel you are having a heart attack, immediately call 911. You can save yourself by quickly chewing on a 325 mg of aspirin. If you feel yourself weakening, try to deeply cough to keep yourself awake. Deep coughing can change the pressure in your chest and may help extend some more time to save you. If in case somebody else has a heart attack, you can quickly give a CPR; give a quick and hard push to the person's chest until help comes.

If an object is stuck in any part of your body, you must avoid removing it from that injured body part. The stuck object may have injured vital organs in your body part that may cause internal bleeding. All you can do as a safety precaution is to try to gently cut or trim short the stuck object; you can also try breaking it without removing it from your body. Remember: Never pull it out, wait for proper help.

In case you are swimming and you find yourself in some riptide or strong currents, don't panic. Try to stay afloat for a bit, and then swim slowly in line to the beach until you swim outside the current. A riptide occurs when you find yourself being carried away from the shoreline. Do not swim against a riptide; instead remember to swim along the shore slowly in either direction where you can swim to safety near the shoreline.

In you suddenly develop cramps and you are in deep water, calm down, breath slowly and try to float on your back. If you develop muscle cramps, try floating face down, try to grab your toes and pull them towards you, pulling your calf until you feel the cramp lessen. If you have stomach cramp, try to get on your back, float with your arms and legs spread out, floating on the water till you feel alright then quickly swim back to safety.

For big cuts or wounds and bleeding out, quickly use your hand; get a cloth, towel or any fabric to stop the bleeding. Try to push down on the wound to reduce bleeding. Try to put enough pressure on the wound so bleeding would eventually slow down. Do not use a tourniquet because you are making the condition worse. Using a tourniquet over a severe bleeding can close the whole vessels of the entire injured body part losing that body part in the process. Use the tourniquet only if you think that the injured body part can no longer be saved or is beyond repair.

These are only some of the common hazardous situations you may find yourself in. The key to remember here is to avoid panic, always keep calm and focused on what you
