Love takes all kinds of forms. Love between two individuals is about sharing sweet thoughts, inspirations and intimate moments. But what if you have to deal with a kind of love relationship that deals with distance and being far away from your loved one? You would have to gather all your wits and muster a lot of courage to find out if you are ready for one.

What would describe a long distance relationship? The first word that may come to mind is that it is hard, a very hard one to be exact. It is also a challenging one because you do all you can to keep it going no matter the distance, no matter how far you are from your loved one. It involves commitment on both partners, patience and understanding and a lot other kinds of strong emotions and feelings that show that kind of love for each other.

Some people give a long distance relationship a chance. Though reasons are not too clear about why they do so; they are still hounded by strong feelings of love and care that these are good reasons to keep the relationship alive. In actuality, a long distance relationship can work and succeed just like any other kind of relationship.

The relationship has two people who are very interested in each other's lives and share strong feelings of love that they want to continually develop as they go along. The difference it has from the other relationship is the physical presence of the two individuals, the inability to see each other on dates and the lack of intimacy as a couple. It is a really testy and strenuous kind in some aspects but then it is not impossible to succeed on it.

What steps do you have to do to maintain your long distance relationship? Firstly, there should be a clear understanding between the two of you about what to expect from each other and the commitment you are willing to do. It may be a promise of staying true to each other by promising not to date other people; you are exclusive only for one another as your agreement per se. You have to let your partner know about your inner thoughts and feelings, and your partner must do the same, so that confusion, quarrels and misunderstandings would be avoided.

The long distance relationship is most importantly based on trust between you and your partner. Honesty is also important as both trust and honesty go together to keep the relationship going for a long time. There should be no room for doubts, insecurity and anxiety. You must be free from feelings of paranoia and stress of keeping your relationship steady and strong. If you are true to yourself and you have accepted the challenges that you would have to deal with to keep this relationship then you are assured of being comfortable and secure in it.

Thanks for your comments. I hope others who are into this kind of relationship would be able to find the same enthusiasm like you did. Evelyn Lalisan - Author 2010-03-07 19:16:48 12
Yes it is! I live in Florence and I've had a few long distance relationships and amongst all the others, the long distance ones were the ones I like to recall and reminisce. In 2007 I was in a relationship with a girl from Rome, and in 2006 with one from Surrey. It was fantastic, it is a good excuse to travel the world, you make a foreign place or country your hometown, which is amazing. You get to dive into a totally different world from the one you currently live in! Besides since you can't see each other every day, when it happens you REALLY make every second worth it, which is something that doesn't happen in regular relationships.Cheers!
