What used to be more of a traditional religion has seen some change as of late. There are many who have seen their Lutheran churches being transformed right in front of their very own eyes. Want to know what we have witnessed?

There are some churches that have really relaxed on some of the things they allow. It started with women being allowed to become pastors. Now there are two different synods in my city and now both of them allow women to be pastors. That is something to talk about because Missouri Synods are very close to the Catholic Church from what they believe and some of the customs. This was one step to being more of the church that a community needs.

The next thing that they have relaxed on at least with the synod we were a part of is the idea of gay pastors. This one great step that you will see for the Lutheran church as they try to step away from the Catholic religion and so forth. Now, this has caused such an uproar as many don't agree with this. Some will tell you that they have a right to do this as they say that Jesus didn't pass judgment due to someone's sexuality. Others say that the Bible clearly talks about the sin that is committed with someone who is homosexual and discourages it. Should this be the person you choose to lead your church? This is a common debate that has been going on since the Bishop allowed this.

You are also starting to see something of a different sort. When you think of a pastor, you don't think of a divorced man or woman leading a church. However, this is becoming quite common as well. Ordained Lutheran pastors are showing that regular old citizens can become a leader of a church organization. There are some pastors and we know a few of them who pay child support and have even gotten remarried.

You don't have your typical pastors who met their wives at Bible camp and so forth. You now have pastors just like you and I who hear God calling them to a mission to serve. There are pastors who have met their husbands or wives online or other methods that many of us deem unfit.

The other thing that you are seeing is a great increase in outreach. What used to be a closed door type of religions is no longer the case. They are taking in more and more people off the street and though those people don't become members, they feel the welcoming arms and so forth. They are proud to call this home and on top of that, you might see them feeling welcomed in the church who might never have stepped through church doors before. Could there be more changes to come? You might never know but we anticipate great things to come. So far, the church that used to be so much like the religion they branched from are becoming more of what we expect.
