My judgment has been called into question once or twice. Or three times. Maybe four. Okay, I'll just say that there was a time when even I didn't trust my own judgment. Instead of this poor judgment expressing itself through alcohol, drugs, or breaking the law, I found myself breaking my heart.

I never dated in high school. In fact, the friend that went to the senior prom with me ended up dating my sister only a couple weeks after prom. Ouch. So once I reached college and I realized that men were starting to take notice of me, I started taking notice of them.

It was awesome. I had a guy on my arm almost every moment of my college life. Each of them was completely different from the others, and best of all, I found myself dating better and better guys each time. The problem was that I didn't have a good sense of what I was looking for, so they all ended up being Mr. Wrong. Mr. Really Really Really Wrong.

Let's start with the first Mr. Wrong: The rebel. My rebel was cool, attractive, and mysterious. We met at a coffee shop and hung out together for a bit. My friend elbowed me and encouraged me to give him my number. We went on a couple dates together. On one of those dates, I found out that he had a record. Nothing big, just stealing something. Later I discovered that this was enough to send him to jail. Not because of he stole something, but because it was a second offense. The first was statutory rape. Strike one.

The second Mr. Wrong seemed like a home run. Sweet, hard working, no record (thankfully), and he took me out on an awesome date for Valentine's Day, even though we had only be dating for a couple of weeks at the time. Later, he asked if he could share something with me. After seeing the confederate flag on his wall and the "White Man's Bible" on his bookshelf, he told me that he doesn't think that black people are bad, he just thinks of them as being on the same level as dogs. You like dogs, right? Strike two.

The third Mr. Wrong and I dated off and on for a few years. The off and on part was that I kept breaking up with him. We were both very devoted to our faiths; they were different faiths and we couldn't find a way to reconcile them. Heartbreak, tears, and strike three.

At that point, I gave up dating. I told myself that I didn't want anything to do with men, and that if I stayed single for the rest of my life it would be better than going through this all over again. Three months after making that resolution, I realized that a friend of mine was cute. Not just cute - hot. After running him through my dossier of Mr. Wrongs, we decided to start dating. Six years later, we are married, have a son, and still head over heels in love. Mr. Right was worth the wait.
