Foods that are good for you must be those which are packed with nutrients, vitamins, minerals and other healthy components. Studies show that these healthful components are contained specifically to some particular vegetables, fruits, chocolate and red wine. These may also affect your moods, fitness and overall physical health. If you are just on the go or just feeling a bit slow with yourself, you can treat yourself to some of these types of foods that would perk you up.

1. Stressed mood? Remember to eat a cup of low fat yogurt or two tbsp of mixed nuts. Yogurt contains lysine which is a type of amino acid that reduces anxiety levels in the body and the mixed nuts contain arginine which is another type of amino acid that lowers stress levels as well. Don't drink soda because it can work up your stress level.

2. To increase your metabolism, remember to drink a cup of green tea. It contains anti-oxidants known as catechins which help burn more calories in your body. Avoid skipping meals because you don't burn or lose calories that way. Try to schedule your snacks equally throughout the day by having yogurt with some fruits in the morning break and hard-boiled egg with some veggies for snacks in the afternoon.

3. When you have low energy you can eat half a cup of raisins or nuts. Raisins are a good source of potassium which helps in converting sugar into energy. Nuts contain magnesium which facilitates metabolism and helps your nerve and muscle systems function better. Don't drink Espresso-based drinks, instead drink brewed coffee without sugar or you can use a small sachet of sugar to mix if desired.

4. Need a Brain Boost? Eat blueberries more often, and if you can find the wild variety, the better because these contain more anti-oxidants than the cultured ones. These contain anti-oxidants which help reduce and protect the brain from memory loss, Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's. Try to avoid ice cream because the sugar contained in it slows down the flow of nutrients to the brain. The prolonged use of most sugary foods bring about the abrupt flow of blood glucose that may cause clogged blood vessels and may then cause the irregular sugar levels in your body.

5. Feeling under the weather? Try to drink hot or cold Ginseng tea. The ginseng helps in eliminating viruses by boosting up your immune body system. Don't drink caffeinated drinks or energy drinks because these contain excessive caffeine ingredients that would disturb your sleep patterns and caffeine can cause dehydration.

6. When you need to be awake- when you need to wake up and go out early remember to eat a combination of eggs and whole-wheat toast. Eggs provide you with protein and energy. Avoid eating Bagel and Cream Cheese, croissants, donuts and pancakes. Too many calories to start up your day are not good. The carbohydrates contained in these foods will make you lose your energy earlier and would make you hungry long before your next meal.

7. Want to Get ''In the Mood''? Try to eat dark chocolate. It contains stimulants that perk up your moods. Better still if your chocolate contains at least 60% cacao to stimulate your senses better. Try to avoid drinking too much wine. A glass or two can set up your mood, but three or more of it would make the toxic effect of the alcohol to your disadvantage. It can affect your body system making you either groggy or sleepy.

So if you want to work up on your moods and you think you may need so, you can always try these basic snack treats.
