Six Possible Reasons Preventing You From Getting a JobBY: Evelyn Lalisan | Category: Careers | Submitted: 2010-03-14 16:59:58
Sometimes looking for a job can be frustrating. You try to apply in many companies and it looks like you are still getting nowhere. Maybe it has something to do with competition; there is always somebody better than you with more experiences and qualifications. Okay, this is the most logical and official reason in most cases. But if you look right into the smaller details of your application process, you may find some six possible reasons preventing you from getting a job. 1. Your email address looks and sounds unprofessional. It could be something weird, funny and perhaps outright ridiculous using such email for the purpose of being unique or making an impression to your group of email buddies. But the thing is, your unique email address won't help in landing you a job. Your email would look more professional and official if you keep it simple with your names or initials combined with some numbers if required. It can look plain and unexciting. But will you have a better chance of being considered for an interview and getting hired for a job? Yes, it might because chances are employers look for something proper and legitimate and email addresses of applicants are good sites to start with. 2. Your profile is blank or not filled up. Your application should contain your education, skills and experiences so fill up that profile section of the page. Even if you are a new graduate with no professional work experience, you can still fill up that portion by citing your extra-curricular activities in school, volunteer jobs and training seminars or workshops you attended. This would let your prospective employer have some good ideas about you as a person and eventually as an employee to their firm. Build up a good and interesting profile. 3. Your contact info is not current or updated. Make sure that you have a working mobile number and landline so your employer can get in touch with you. As much as possible be on hand to answer the call and not just an answering machine or pre-recorded message saying you are unavailable. Most employers are not pleased when they are answered by an answering machine. Don't let a missed connection be a reason for not getting that job! 4. You are just too choosy with the job you are looking for. Even if you have a business degree and the employer would consider you for a customer service staff position, doesn't mean that you have to immediately frown on this opportunity. The better it would be if you try to make your options a bit more open, taking into consideration that you may have skills that would be good in this job plus additional training. Don't limit yourself to an exclusive position; make yourself available to other options since you have a good education that would back you up. 5. Your mom does follow-ups on your application. This is a big no-no and this gives an impression of you as an immature applicant that still looks to mom for some help. Don't let your mom, spouse or any family member or even close friends to follow up on the status of your application. It's not professional and it would give an image of you as not too interested in the job. So, do it yourself and follow-up on your own! 6. Maybe luck has something to do with it. Call it fate, destiny or divine providence that sometimes something that is not meant to be isn't meant to be. It may not be your fortune to get that job no matter how hard you try to do so. Don't tire yourself looking for reasons why but just learn to accept it and treat it as another learning experience, then move on to your next job hunt. Don't lose hope, keep positive and focus on your job search. Your patience and sincerity in looking for the right job would come soon. So if you are serious and really focused on your job search, try to review these six possible reasons and turn them into something positive to help you land a job. As it is, you need all the help for getting a job in these trying times. So do away with these six reasons and make your job search a success.
