Survey: Road Trip to Romania, Which Car? I Need Your Help!BY: Alessandro Saetta Vinci | Category: Travel | Submitted: 2010-05-21 09:19:00
Every June of every year for about 5 years me and my best friend have gathered in our favourite pub to have a beer and talk about our usual September road trip. Three years ago it was Isola d'Elba, a small and beautiful island in Tuscany. Two years ago it was Scotland. And last year it was Las Vegas and Death Valley. This year she said she wanted to go on a sea holiday. I'm not a big fan of sea holiday, usually because they turn out to be hell rather than a relaxing vacation. We all know how it goes: you get on the beach, lie down on your beach towel which is always full of sand, you take your iPod to listen to your favourite song, but the iPod doesn't work, so you go for a dive but the unguarded children keep kicking their ball at you while their parents aren't watching, so you go home, have a shower, which doesn't work, go out to have dinner at the restaurant, that has lost your reservation, and then you go to bed, where obviously you'll be devoured by insects. And anyway, this is something I'd rather do with my girlfriend, not with my best mate, so I said "no" I said I wanted to go on a road trip in a country that has sea, beautiful beaches, casinos, mountain passes, cute villages and some great driving roads. So she said "Alright. We'll go to France." but I said "No. We'll go to Romania." Rather reluctantly she agreed. Now, since I'm a motoring journalist, and I usually like to mix cars and traveling, the choice of the car is very important, because that will give me the chance to take advantage of a pleasant road trip to describe the car. Unfortunately in Constanta, which will be our base, there isn't a very wide selection of cars to choose from. It is mainly Dacias and Renaults, well as a matter of fact, it's almost exclusively Dacias and Renaults. So, after an accurate look at things, it all came down to two cars which I might be interested in and that will unite their purpose of being good for an article and getting us around during our journey. Nissan X-Trail or Volkswagen Eos? I tried rationalizing and looked at the bright sides. The Nissan is probably more comfortable, more spacious, more economical, definitely a better car in case of bad weather and more fun and safe to drive on rough roads in the mountains area. The VW is better looking, more fun to drive on the highway, more fun on the seaside, more fun on the Transfagarasan and faster. Having resolved nothing, I tried getting out of it by looking at the drawbacks. The Nissan is slower and heavier and worse on the highway, it's not that good looking and when not on hazardous terrain, probably worse than the VW. On the other hand, though, the VW is very tiny, hasn't got enough space in the boot, which is not nice on a journey that will cover hundreds of miles in a week, much more expensive to run and above all, when the weather is foul and the roof has to be down, absolutely useless. What the hell do you make of that? Article Source: http://www.writearticles.org/ About Author / Additional Info: Comments on this article: (0 comments so far)
