Technological Changes and Its Effects on 'Solution Providers'BY: Anisa Author | Category: Technology | Submitted: 2010-10-10 13:42:47
Looking at the current changes, I must say Darwin's theory of 'survival of the fittest' is still valid today and those who fail to respond to the ever-changing needs of this world are bound to stay far behind those who instantly act in response. For businesses whose main objective is to support others with their business i.e. solution providers, need to be even more responsive because they are not only required to keep themselves up-to-date but are also responsible for the success of other's business. When we talk about technological changes specifically for 'solution-providers', it is both a blessing and a curse. It has its own benefits and risks. Let me first discuss the possible risks it can pose: If solution providers fail to learn new technologies, their services will be considered as out-of-date by their clients, and there will be no demand and no demand means no business! Secondly, if solution providers fail to usher this technological change, they will lose their clients' trust because not to usher the change is the company's decision, not their clients'. Moreover, this changing way of doing the business demands implementation of newer systems and software which may be cheap at the face of it, but its implementation and integration can pose financial burdens on the company. However, companies have no other option then to accept this change and live with it. Another possible risk of not adopting this technology change could be that the company's employees may leave the job thinking the organization is rigid to change. This is a fact that savvy employees in today's world well-understands the importance of staying updated with the current technologies, and if they feel that the company they are working with is not following the trend, they will simply quit the job since they can not afford losing the ever-new opportunities this ever-changing world offers to those who embrace change. Let us now consider the wonders this changing technology can do to the solution providers' business: The new systems introduced by virtue of this advancement facilitate solution providers in achieving their goals more effectively, swiftly and speedily. It gives them several options so that they can serve their clients in the best possible manner. Moreover, it is a fact that solution providing businesses are commonly judged by service seekers on the basis of their tech-orientation because only if the solution provider is on a higher rank than the solution seeker, it can be expected to serve better. Therefore, the more the service providers are updated with the changing technologies, the better they can serve their clients. It is a fact that one can neither stop this technological change from happening nor can avoid it; there is no other option then to accept the change and alter one's own ways of doing business so as to stay competitive. If one decide not to accept this change and keep on doing business following traditional ways they are sure to face defeat because world never stops for anyone and those who don't help themselves are bound to failure. Now it is entirely up to the solution providers how they cope with the technology change and use it for their benefit. Yet, this is true that accepting the change is a bit more expensive for solution providers due to the fact that they need to achieve a higher status than their client, otherwise there will be no demand for their service, but still they have to as there is no other option. The best thing they can do is to: "Accept the change". Once they stop resisting the change they will automatically find new ways to accept it. They should: Go for new systems and software to serve their customers in the best possible manner. Think of the new ways to use technology in their favor. This will also help them achieve an edge over their competitors. Update their employees' knowledge by trainings and certifications and show them they are open to change and not rigid. This will boost up employees' motivation to work as they can see the advancement opportunities in their careers. Of course, to cope with change is not a matter of seconds; however, there is a need to make sure the solution providing businesses are not taking extra time to alter their current ways of doing business to make it meet the new standards because then there may not be any need to change as competition may have already overtaken the lead.
