Unlike any other article in the newspaper, the editorial is the most sensational write-up. While it also take in factual information as any other news, it also discusses the writer's opinion or judgment based on the current issues or events. Writing a news article may cover an outbreak of a disease or a harmful virus that could impend the health of the community; editorial writing, on the other thought, may narrate similar facts and would also point out what the local government could do to alleviate social health and what people should do in order to avoid such epidemic. Persuasion, is the element an editorial writing has, unlike doing any other news article; and an effective editorial has the power to convince its reader to accord with its point of view.

Editorial writing, same as the news writing, is best when served hot. It is for this reason that subjects for editorial writing are those what is "hot", in which the involved society is entitled to their opinion. Major events or social gatherings, though may not be concurrent, could also be good topics for an editorial, so long as it there are still unresolved issues concerned or it still resonates significance to the society. Take for instance the 9/11 tragedy or the Peal Harbor. Though this events happened years back, their aftermath still lives on. Editorial writing for these topics are best bring out during anniversaries where such event are commemorated.

While we have the liberty in expressing our opinions in editorial writing, we are also held responsible for what we write. Since our readers usually draw their point of views based on what they have read, heard or saw, it is the writer's responsibility to provide factual information from which we could have different opinions. Do an investigative research, if you must, to further strengthen your editorial. Read other related materials on the given subject. Everyday, a different news article are written based on the subject matter. As new development arises, new article were written. Rummaging with every bit of information gives you a very good background regarding a subject matter, hence, a sound opinion could be drawn from your write-up. This will give you a foot forward in persuading and engaging your reader with your editorial.

What makes a good editorial is its ability to picture out the consequences and have its readers realize its impact and significance to our lives. Its objective is to draw the reader's emotions, to get them involved, and to have them act for an issue that needs the society's concern. It is for this reason the a good amount of rhetorics is needed in editorial writing. It is, by all means, an art.

Editorial writing aims to motivate its readers to participate and have an opinion into the current issue. When doing such, do away in naming specific persons or organizations involved as this may be considered libelous. You may just stick with the facts and the issue that needs pressing attention.

A deep understanding on using the written language as an effective tool for persuading others is what makes a good editorial. Being good in the art of editorial writing could make all the difference in our society.
