NEW DELHI, - RIA Novosti, Evgeny Pakhomov.
President of the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), Ralph de Souza believes that this state should open a consulate of Russia in order to quickly solve problems of Russian tourists. Currently, the Russian Consulate that is nearest to Goa is located in Mumbai, which is more than 500 kilometres to the north. "Given the large number of tourists from Russia, the creation of a Russian Consulate in the state could certainly help to improve the situation, "- De Souza said in an interview with RIA Novosti, responding to the question, as to how he believes the situations regarding Russian tourist's can be corrected. He also added that enforcement authorities of Russia and India should cooperate more actively. According to De Souza, the Russian government should inform India about any or if there are criminals travelling to Goa so that the government here can be more cautious.

There have been a series of scandals related to the Russian tourists, a lot of rapes and harassment cases have been registered, the recent one that has caught the media glare is the sexual assault of a nine year old by an Indian tourist. Also in February a Russian businessman was charged with the murder of a local resident, who is said to have died from the wounds which he suffered as a result of a fight with the Russian. The last incident occurred on the 18th of March, when a Russian tourist was found dead in a Goan hotel. According to media reports, the cause of death was believed to be heavy alcohol consumption which resulted in poisoning. Some locals and politicians also accuse Russians of "Provocative Behaviour", and have also said that Russians have been causing problems in Goa. However, Mr. DeSouza said that these allegations are farfetched and that nearly 40,000 tourists come to Goa from Russia and that even though there have been several instances where Russians have been involved in various crimes, not all 40,000 of them can be blamed. He also recalled that around 10-15 years ago, the number of visitors to Goa decreased, which even resulted in the closure of at least eight hotel complexes. But increase in the number of Russian tourists who have been coming to Goa increasingly has helped to rectify the situation. "Hotel business could then become active, and this saved the situation "- said De Souza. He also added that the Russians occupy a definite place in all segments of the hotel market in Goa - from and five-star luxury hotels to inexpensive hotels. "The state each year is visited by about half a million foreign tourists

There are problems with the representatives of different countries, but the incidents are
actually not so much - they simply are inflate by the media - said DeSouza. And also added "We will be glad to see more tourists from Russia, because every tourist to us is a dear guest."
