Things I Have Learned From My Sister

It's not every day that you learn something when you are older from your younger sister. Unless you have a relationship like my sister and I have. When you learn to see things through a different set of eyes, you learn to see things in a whole new light just like I had. From a twenty something year old learning from a soon to be seventeen year old, this is what I have learned.

First of all, I have learned that you need to look deeper into a person. While we have experience with some things, when I look at my sister and see how hard of a time she goes through, this is something that was hard to learn. I say you hurt me skip it. I'm done getting hurt. Yet, through how much my sister often puts up with I have learned that you take what you get and sometimes you have to take that risk of being hurt no matter how much it does hurt in the end.

I have learned the true value of friendship as well. The thing with teens is that they know how to stick by their friends. There are some who don't do this. Yet, there are many who have learned to stop from the busy day to be there for a friend who is going through a hard time. For instance, like when a friends family doesn't like how they handle a decision that is their choice.

I have learned that when you apply yourself, you do succeed. I think that as we get older, though we tell this to our kids, sometimes we feel like saying why bother. Sometimes, many of us do. Yet, you can see the triumphant expressions when you do succeed and conquer.

I have learned that appreciation is everything. Everyone needs to feel appreciated. As adults, we take kids for granted. We don't listen to them enough. There was so much more that you can find and with that in mind, I have learned to say thanks and to make sure that everyone knows how appreciated they are.

There are more things you can learn. I have learned from first hand from my sister, that even teens can be overworked. They are humans and all too often, schools, parents, and more put a lot of pressure on these kids. Sometimes, you have to let them step back and have that break, but many of us don't know this because we drive ourselves the same way we do teens.

The biggest thing I have learned is the idea of passion. Go back to when you were a teen and remember some of those things that you used to be passionate about. Now, see if you are still that way. Teens teach you on how to be passionate about something again. It's taking a step to defending that passion. You get the main idea. This is what I have learned and we just bet that if you stop to take a glimpse into the teens or kids around you, or even someone you spend a lot of time with, you learn to see things their way. You learn to value what they can teach you without even trying.
