Things to Know Next Year For Your TaxesBY: Deidre Dorsett | Category: Careers | Submitted: 2010-07-16 17:05:47
There are some of us who have to buy things for work. We have to buy gas. We might have had to buy a cell phone that we can take with us to answer calls. We might have had to buy a uniform. These things and more can be used to write off on your taxes. There are many people who don't know this and miss out on having these things taken from their taxes, but if you buy them for work, you can take them off your taxes. You should get paid for this and this is how Uncle Sam allows you to do this. There are a few things you can write off. Now, there are some who find that the uniforms were supplied by the work and the money was just taken out of their check. This doesn't count. Just like the phone that you had to buy and work reimbursed you through it or things of that nature don't count. If it was taken out of your check then you theoretically reimbursed them for that. If you had to buy it and they reimbursed you , that is another stipulation where in fact, that doesn't count. Remember that. The phone can't be your only phone. It has to be a separate line. So if you find that you have a home phone but you had to buy a new one. You can use that. They won't take all of it off for which you pay towards the phone, but they can take off a good amount for if it weren't for your job, then you wouldn't have had to buy it. The same goes with the internet. If you had to buy internet because you had to be able to remote access to work, then you can mark that sucker off. Why should you have to pay for it when it's part of your job? You deserve a little compensation. Just like those who drive hours to work. It's not our fault the job industry sucks. Those faithful employees can take this off their taxes as well. Yet, many people don't know this. It shouldn't be some big secret. It's not against the rules as well. It is what you are using to help you do your job. You wouldn't believe how many people who don't do this. Sometimes, the tax person or the person doing their taxes rather doesn't bring this up. If you find that they don't do this for you then you need to mention it. Next year, you might want to ask your tax professional about this.
