San Juan del Sur is a Beautiful little town on the Pacific coast in Nicaragua, Central America. There are many things to do in this little town so if your time is limited, I recommend taking our top 5 list into consideration when planning what to do. #5 Booze Cruise Various surf shops and tour operators in town offer boat rides with open bar of beer and rum drinks. Some offer the option of fishing or other activities. This is a great way to spend sunset after doing one of our other recommended activities that isn't a full day trip. #4 Horseback Riding Galloping along the beach can be beautiful, calming and thrilling all at the same time. Just be careful of where you rent your horses. Many horses in Nicaragua are not well kept, but there are several tours with large, healthy horses and beautiful beaches for riding. Make this a full day trip and stop for lunch and jump in some waves to cool off. #3 Surf Trip and Beach Day Surf shops line the streets offering trips for everyone from advanced surfers to lessons for beginners. They'll rent you a board and transport it or you can bring your own. Make it a full day trip with an hour for a lesson, a couple hours of surfing, lunch on the beach, relax in a hammock, then hit the waves again before enjoying a beautiful sunset over the ocean with your feet in the warm sand and a cold drink in your hand. #2 Turtle Tour Every so often, hundreds of turtles flock to La Flor beach to lay their eggs. Then three weeks later thousands of baby turtles hatch and crawl out into the water. Both can be observed on an amazing moonlit tour. #1 Canopy Tour The most thrilling of all; get driven up to the top of the mountain where you can enjoy some of the most breathtaking views of the bay of San Juan del Sur. Then fly down zip lining between 18 platforms from tree to tree passing through tree tops, over rivers, by a waterfall and in between cliffs to the bottom. This trip is just a couple of hours long so you can combine it with another activity like a booze cruise in the afternoon.
