For people as young as thirty something, the amount of gadgets needed by today's students is incredible. The students of today barely use textbooks or the library, they do research online. Gone are the lined, paper notebooks and ballpoint pens, these days notes are simply not taken that way. What they need are electronic gadgets listed below. Laptop Ten years ago, it had started to become difficult studying in a university without a computer. These days, it is imperative that you have your own and better yet, one you can carry around wherever you go. Classes schedules may not be commute friendly and having a laptop to do some work between classes is extremely valuable. It is also back- and shoulder-friendly if you keep in mind that laptop saves you from bringing many paper notebooks and textbooks since all your notes are stored digitally while all the information previously provided by textbooks can be found online. USB Thumb Drive As good as a laptop can be, there is usually one or two thing it can not do, or not optimally, that is. A USB thumb drive is really useful when you want to work with your file on someone else's computer. Use the drive to transfer sizable files from one computer to another. Just like the name implies, the size of these drives are comfortably small enough that you can attach them to your keychain and bring them around anywhere you go. These drives are also helpful to those without personal computers. You can work on a computer at the library and then when the library closes and kicks you out, you can save your work on the thumb drive, bring it home, and work on a dorm's computer. They are also not that expensive, starting at about $15.00. Digital Voice Recorder This is a very useful gadget for those of you who attend many lectures and find it difficult to concentrate between actually listening and taking notes. With a digital voice recorder, you can set it up to record what the lecturer says and actually pay attention to what he or she says. The device has internal microphones but you can also attach external microphones on one of the available jacks. The recording can easily be read by a computer or an iPod. Good affordable ones start at $65.00. Scientific Calculator High school, math, science and engineering students all need this. In depth calculation done daily in the field of science, math and engineering can easily be done on this kind of calculator, something a cell phone calculator can not do. Kindle This may be one of the best choices to carry around the olden day textbooks. An impressive number of books are ready to be downloaded into the Kindle but what is especially nice about this device is the fact that the display actually looks like a book. It doesn't tax your eyes; it is not at all heavy and it is very easy to use. You save a lot of energy carrying one of this digital books, not to mention a lot of trees by using paperless books! Digital Pen This is another technology a student can definitely take a lot of advantages from. The digital pen digitally saves all handwritten notes you scribble down so the notes can be stored into the computer or a smart phone, or even sent via email to classmates. All you need is a USB cable to download the file to a PC or a smart phone. Pocket PC Like the name implies, this gadget serves as a small computer you can carry around in your pocket. You can send email, surf the internet or record audio or take written notes. External Hard Drive All those notes, research results and papers amount to a lot of digital files. External hard drives are important to store these files, as well as serving as back up data. It is also useful for extended trip home or elsewhere when you still want to spend some time working on school projects. You can also stored old files and organize things in order to optimize your PC or laptop. A Cell Phone Life without a cell phone today is not really easy. A student who balances study, social life, family and other hobbies definitely needs a cell phone to keep himself connected and organized. Some campus have also get rid of land lines phones in their dorms so a cell phone is pretty much a must have in most cases.
